Why We All Need To Take A Break From Work

This article is more than 8 years old.

My birthday was on August 28, and to celebrate my wife took me to Tahoe to get away. I tend to work quite a bit, and sometimes it can be challenging to take a break, especially when running your own business. However, when I do take a break from work I find tremendous value. With recent articles coming out about how bad a company Amazon is and how we are all overworking ourselves, I thought it was important to do a video on taking a step back. Doing this has many benefits, such as allowing us to focus on our creative ideas, helping us feel more engaged when get back to work, spending time with friends and family (because isn't that what life's all about?), and giving us new appreciation for what we do and why we do it. Taking a break doesn't have to mean driving hundreds of miles and taking a boat into the middle of the lake, it can be as simple as taking a dog for a walk, meditating, or taking a few days off to just relax at home. The pace of change around us is increasing and it can oftentimes feel overwhelming.

In the latest episode of the #futurein5 I explore why I think we all need to take breaks from work. These breaks might be uncomfortable but they are crucial. I’d be curious to hear your thoughts and comments on this as well.
