TV Article 'Bastard Executioner' canceled after only one season By James Hibberd James Hibberd James is the TV News Editor for EW.com EW's editorial guidelines Published on November 18, 2015 03:29PM EST Photo: Ollie Upton/FX The Bastard Executioner has been axed. Kurt Sutter’s medieval drama series has been canceled after only one season. The expensive series (for a basic cable network, at least) delivered low ratings and was roundly trounced by critics (EW gave it a C-grade). Sutter claimed credit for ending his show in a trade ad, the Sons of Anarchy creator noting, “I don’t want to write something that nobody’s f—ing watching.” The Bastard Executioner is a rare example of an FX drama only lasting one season. The channel has previously renewed modestly rated dramas like Tyrant and The Strain. Sutter is also developing a spin-off for Anarchy about the Mayans motorcycle club. Bastard Executioner was set in 14th century Wales and followed a Welsh knight (Lee Jones).
