Microsoft Hyperlapse Builds Time-Lapse Highlight Reels from Long Videos

Windows/Windows Phone/Android: Microsoft Hyperlapse gives you the power to shoot tons of video and then combine, condense, and edit it all into a short, time-lapse highlight reel on your PC, Windows Phone, or Android device, for free.

Microsoft’s Hyperlapse is free while it’s in public preview. On the desktop, it’s aimed at serious video editors and enthusiasts who want an easy-to-use tool to edit down long shots of video into short, action-packed time-lapse films or segments for longer movies. On the mobile side, the Hyperlapse app makes it easy to do the same thing, with an emphasis on fast, easy editing and sharing, right from your phone.

Windows users can grab Microsoft Hyperlapse Pro and put it to work on their PCs right now (it supports Windows 7, 8, and 8.1. Windows Phone users can grab it from their app store, but Android users will need to join the Hyperlapse Mobile for Android Preview community at Google+ before they can download the app from Google Play (linked below.)

If this technology sounds familiar, it should. Instagram unveiled their Hyperlapse feature last year. While it remains iOS only (although there are alternatives), Microsoft is taking a more cross-platform approach. Similarly, while Instagram’s approach only works for Instagram videos, Microsoft’s should work anywhere, since the end-product is a video you can post or share anywhere you choose. It’s worth noting that Microsoft actually coined the term “Hyperlapse” years ago, and there was a bit of a hubub when Instagram used the name for its product. Either way, more options are good things, and if you couldn’t get into Hyperlapses for Instagram, now you have another alternative.
