Brie Larson has been a busy bee since winning that Oscar for Room. She filmed Kong: Skull Island in Hawaii with Tom Hiddleston and Samuel L. Jackson, and reports of her potentially nabbing the Captain Marvel role for Marvel are the talk of the town. But before we even find out if she’ll be officially joining the Avengers, something her Scott Pilgrim vs. the World co-star Chris Evans wants to happen, filming has commenced on her next project, The Glass Castle.
Today, Lionsgate announced the start of production on the film that adapts Jeannette Walls’ best-selling memoir of the same name. The story centers on the author’s childhood with her nomadic, dysfunction family, who traversed desert towns in the Southwest and often camped in the mountains. The Glass Castle films in Montreal before moving on to New Mexico and Welch, WVA. A release date has yet to be set.
Larson is joined by Woody Harrelson, Naomi Watts, Max Greenfield (Schmidt on New Girls), Sarah Snook (The Dressmaker), Robin Bartlett (Shutter Island), Ella Anderson (Mother’s Day), Josh Caras (Jackrabbit), Shree Grace Crooks (American Horror Story), Brigette Lundy-Paine (Irrational Man), Charlie Shotwell (Captain Fantastic), Iain Armitage (Big Little Lies), Dominic Bogart (Extraction), Chandler Head (The Boss), Sadie Sink (American Odyssey), and newcomers Eden Grace Redfield and Olivia Kate Rice.
In addition to the star-studded leading cast, equally exciting is the reunion of Larson with director Destin Daniel Cretton, who co-wrote the Glass Castle’s screenplay with Andrew Lanham. Larson had developed a following with a string of roles, like in Scott Pilgrim and United States of Tara, but she reinforced herself as leading lady material in Short Term 12, Cretton’s wonderful indie centered around the world of a residential treatment facility.
Whatever you might think of even the potential for Larson to play Carol Danvers, there’s a reason she caught Marvel’s eye.
