There’s no shortage of spectacular sushi restaurants in New York, but Kosaka — which just began service on West 13th Street — is still a much-welcomed opening. Chef Yoshihiko Kousaka, formerly of Jewel Bako, is serving two omakase options: one of sushi only for $125, and a chef’s tasting, which includes hot dishes, for $155. His style is fairly traditional, and the menu will change based on what’s available in New York and at Tokyo’s Tsukiji fish market.

He has enlisted some A-list helpers, too: Fujiko Aoki of Mochi Rin provides desserts, Tea Whisk’s Satoko Souheki Mori curates the tea selection, artist Akihiro Nikaido custom-makes the pottery, and design firm Super Paprika conceived the small, Zen-like space, which includes ten seats at the wood counter and two four-top tables.
