TV Article Oscars 2016: Best Original Score considering 112 submissions By Will Robinson Published on December 16, 2015 Photo: Dean Treml/Getty Images The Academy has released the 112 scores in contention or Best Original Score during February’s 88th Academy Awards on Wednesday. This comes on the heels of Friday’s announcement of the tracks under consideration of Best Original Song. The amount of entries is a minor dip from the previous two years, when 114 were under consideration. With little surprise, Star Wars: The Force Awakens and John Williams appear in the initial list. Jurassic World, whose original movie Jurassic Park was scored by Williams, appears courtesy of composer Michael Giacchino. Another nostalgic turn? Ludwig Goransson’s work on Creed received an early nod. The late composer James Horner had three of his works show up on the Academy’s first list for his scoring of Southpaw, The 33, and Wolf Totem. The voting body of the Academy will select five from this list. The five scores that receive the most votes will be on the final Oscars ballot, announced Jan. 14, and up Feb. 28’s big prize under the watchful eye of host Chris Rock. See the full list below.
