My Space

A Tour of D.J. Jillionaire’s Living Room in Washington Heights

Name Christopher Leacock, a.k.a. Jillionaire

Age 37

Occupation D.J., producer and member of Major Lazer

Location New York

Favorite Room The living room of his Washington Heights apartment, which contains much art but, surprisingly, no vinyl. “I have a lot of vinyl down in Trinidad,” Mr. Leacock said. “It’d be sick if I could find a way to bring it up. For right now, my girlfriend and I listen to MP3s.”

What drew you to this apartment and to living way uptown?I’d never been up to Washington Heights, but I saw the place. It was a nice, big apartment, gets a lot of light. It’s a Dominican-Jewish neighborhood, so it’s very diverse. In the summertime it’s great in the afternoon. There’s always someone playing music and activity outside. We pretty much leave the windows open 24-7.

After traveling, what’s the first thing you do when you get home?I do travel like crazy. I probably do maybe 100 to 150 shows a year. Home means a place for me to decompress. The first thing I do is slump down on my couch and sit there for five or 10 minutes.

I’m no art critic, but the piece on the wall looks like a large breast. I have a lot of friends who paint or take pictures. That green one and the other one that’s blue are by an artist named Samantha McCurdy. It’s a canvas, and a ball goes in the back. That’s how it gets that shape. It was interesting to me that she was able to manipulate a simple canvas to give it a three-dimensional position.

Tell me about those little 3-D figurines of you and your girlfriend. We were in Barcelona and going to dinner in the rain and passed this place that does them. They put you on a pedestal and do a 3-D scan and they ship it to you. They’re funny. They kind of look like you. It’s your posture and expression. But you’re fat and look 10 years older, like life didn’t work out.

I have to laugh seeing you wearing DJ Khaled-branded slippers. Are they for real? I got those for Christmas from our manager. I was in Trinidad for Christmas, and when I got back these slippers were waiting for me. I do actually wear them around the house. I can’t make any guarantees I’d wear them outside the house. But they’re very comfortable for making cereal, taking out the trash, going to the bathroom and stuff.
