Bunny Fun at Christmas...

It has been a while since I blogged, but its not that I stopped drawing...

It was the last Friday of the school term and traditionally teachers escape early and collapse in a heap having survived the longest and darkest of the school terms in the UK. However, this time I had agreed to meet up with fellow Manchester urban sketchers in the early evening to draw the Light Wave art festival at Salford Quays - in particular the giant bunnies! So despite exhaustion, I pottered off to take up the challenge.

My initial sketches were drawn on black paper with a inktense and graphitint white pencils. Given I hadn't drawn in about 4 weeks I was amazed that I managed to get back as easily as I did. It's always my fear that if I haven't drawn for a while that my skills will disappear and I will be back where I was two years ago. After fifteen years of not doing any sketching , I've made the time and effort to sketch on a regular basis since January 2014 and its showing in my sketches.

The second sketch was done in my Strathmore toned grey sketchbook with pencil (which ended up with a coffee stain on).  I felt more at ease with my mistakes and variations over the past year. I've become less demanding of my work to be a photographic type image. I am learning that just the impression, the mistakes and the wobbly lines are part of the beauty of drawing.

We all retired into Pret A Manger for a coffee and a catch up with the discussion mainly about the upcoming International Urban Sketchers Symposium in Manchester in 2016 and we cannot wait to share our city and its surrounds with everyone.

The staff were so impressed with our drawings that we were given a free coffee - so thank you.

The final sketch was done at the end when everyone had left, before I wandered home with my other half. This time I used the Derwent line painter pen, which was a bit leaky so I'm not sure if I really like it. This time, the rabbit ended up a bit longer than it should, but I'm happier with the shape.
