Georgia Davies ensured a third Welsh medal at the European Championships as she won bronze in the 50m backstroke in London.

The Swansea swimmer, now based in Loughborough, claimed third place with a time of 27.87s, behind fellow Great Britain ace Fran Halsall (27.57), who won gold, while Denmark's Mie Nielson celebrated silver (27.77s).

Halsall set a new championship record and personal best time.

"I am pleased with that time and I have been consistent will all my swims throughout the week," said Davies.

"Hopefully that will help my 100m and that is the aim in Rio."

Welsh swimmers Chloe Tutton and Jazz Carlin had already achieved podium positions in London this week.

Tutton, 19, celebrated a bronze in the 100m breaststroke, while Carlin won the silver in the 800m freestyle and will compete in the 400m event on Sunday.

The Welsh women's trio have all been selected for the Olympics in Rio in August.

Cardiff swimmer Ieaun Lloyd completes the Welsh quartet in Brazil this summer and was part of the 4x200m freestyle foursome who qualified second fastest in the morning heats.

But Lloyd was not included in the four who swam in the final and the GB team finished sixth which was won by the Netherlands.

Adam Peaty also claimed gold for Great Britain on the penultimate day as he defended his 50 metres breaststroke title.

Peaty powered home in 26.66secs to claim gold, ahead of team-mate Ross Murdoch, who finished third in 27.31s.
