Tarrytown Singer To Perform With Band EVA At Danbury Palace

TARRYTOWN, N.Y. -- It's a long way from Australia for singer-songwriter Kath Buckell but its that distance -- and the connection she has with her other international and U.S.-born bandmates -- that makes the women's performances so unique.

EVA brings together folk music from Ireland, Australia and the U.S.

The Tarrytown resident, part of the all-female band EVA, will be performing at The Palace Danbury with folk-legend Melanie on Thursday, July 16.

Buckell, together with Liz Simmons and Nicole Zuraitis, are known for blending renditions of traditional and contemporary original folk and world music with elements of improvisation from each of each of their prospective cultures which, aside from Buckell's Australian roots, include Ireland and the U.S.

EVA was formed four years ago and has, over time, changed band members, but never the focus. The group has toured all over the country and is rooted in the tradition of instruments, which include a violin, a fiddle a flute and a mandolin, though on any given night you could have varying combinations.

Buckell, who moved to Tarrytown from Brooklyn a few months ago, calls the ensemble "an international harmony group" which performs world music. "We're very much about the multi-cultural component and sharing stories of our respective homelands," she said.

"We also have a lot of fun with the audience and like to banter and make jokes."

The group is in the midst of recording a new album which should debut by the end of this year.
