'Street Fighter V' Shows Off Its Opening Cinematic

Following
This article is more than 8 years old.

With the launch of Street Fighter V looming, we’ve now been graced with the game’s opening cinematic.

From Nash breaking out of his grave to Necalli (shown above) taking on Ryu, this opening cinematic has some interesting narrative inferences afoot.

The Nash and M. Bison face off is something that has a good amount of history behind it in the games. With any luck that will be resolved more in favor of Nash this time around.

The main thing that jumps out though is that the color purple is obviously linked to the bad guys and that Necalli is a lot more than just a brute with dreadlocks.

Visually it’s also nicely stylized and like the aesthetic shift brought on by Street Fighter IV, this new game has its own tone as well.

Despite all this I am just glad that we are still getting a new Street Fighter game. As what I played at last year’s Tokyo Game Show was great and now that the game is finally upon us, I can’t wait to get stuck in.

Now that I have a new PS4 arcade stick as well, I’ll be doing my best to get into the game’s system properly. The last major game in the series I put serious time into was Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike.

Released on February 16th, Street Fighter V is out on PS4 and PC. Currently there are no plans for an Xbox One or arcade release.
