Last night, she was at Williamsburg Hand & Detail in New York City to celebrate the launch of Hasbro’s #TrulyOutrageous Jem and the Holograms collections by Shopbop, Manic Panic, and Sephora, and she revealed her thoughts on Jem being brought to life on the big screen. AP Images “I had a sneaky suspicion that it was going to happen, and I always hoped that it would,” Newark told InStyle as partygoers were busy getting glam in the real-life Starlight Salon and snapping photos in the Starlight Express photobooth. So when she was asked to make a cameo appearance in the film, Newark didn’t hesitate—although she did have to adjust to being back in the world of the Holograms. “I was only on the set for one day,” she said. “But my huge ‘pinch me’ moment was when I first saw the trailers that said ‘Jem, Aja, Shana, and Kimber. I thought, ‘Oh my god is this really happening?’ It was crazy.” AP Images How to Be Jem and the Holograms for Halloween While on set, Newark got to meet Audrey Peeples, who plays Jem in the movie. “I’m so thrilled for her,” Newark said of her successor. “I remember what it was like to be her age and want to do your best work, and she’s just a natural. It was so awesome to spend the day watching the girls work.” justina Mintz/Universal Even though she was involved in the film, Newark wasn’t sure what to expect from anything other than her own scenes. “I was in the dark with the rest of the fans,” she said. “But little by little, I started to be a bit more in the know about what would happen.” When she finally did see the movie in its entirety, Newark’s emotions got the best of her. “It made me cry—in a good way,” she said. “It made me laugh out loud and it also brought me to tears.” Everything You Need to Know About the New Jem and the Holograms Movie Fans will certainly be kept on their toes, as we already know that there are key differences between the movie and the cartoon to keep the story modern.
