Chicago Innocence Center exoneree to play for Bulls in Summer League

A Chicago Innocence Center exoneree has joined the Chicago Bulls for this year's Summer League, according to the Dallas Morning News. 

Darrell Williams, 25, was charged with sexual battery and rape by instrumentation in February 2011. He was convicted, but the Chicago Innocence Center—which investigates wrongful convictions—helped Williams overturn the conviction in April 2014.  

This summer, the Chicago native will play for his hometown team in the Las Vegas Summer League, which begins on July 10. 

"It's crazy. I can't even believe it right now," Williams told the Dallas Morning News. "I'm just thankful for the opportunity. Now I've got to make the most of it." 

Williams, who went undrafted in last week's NBA draft, was a starter at Oklahoma State when he was charged in 2011. After the conviction was dropped, he joined Texas A&M-Commerce, playing his first game 33 months after his last for Oklahoma State, according to the Dallas Morning News. 

Williams' agent told the Dallas Morning News that his client chose the Bulls over summer league offers from two other teams. 

Williams is the Chicago Innocence Center's youngest exoneree, according to the organization.
