Gary Neville insists he has no problem with Dani Parejo after replacing the midfielder as Valencia captain.

Neville appointed striker Paco Alcacer as skipper for Thursday's 1-1 draw against Las Palmas in their Copa del Rey quarter-final, and after the game said discussions over a captaincy change had been ongoing for several weeks.

"I discussed it with Dani over these last couple of weeks and we came to the decision together," said Neville.

"If there was a problem between the two of us then he would not have played tonight and you would not have seen that performance from him. I thought he was our best player."

Neville is yet to secure a victory in La Liga, but the former Manchester United defender has Valencia one game away from the Copa del Rey semi-finals.

Captain Alcacer struck midway through the second half to cancel out Wilfried Zahibo's first-half own goal, and with the second leg to come on January 28, the manager anticipates a nervy return fixture.

"They only had one chance in the game which was the set piece," said Neville. "We were anxious in final third, but at least we had sustained attacks. We didn't deserve to be down in that game.

"We keep going behind and it'll be a very difficult game for us, but it'll also be very difficult for Las Palmas in the return."
