Taylor Williams Tobias, 24, of 1425 Bedford St., is charged with second-degree breach of peace, third-degree assault, second-degree criminal mischief and criminal violation of a restraining order.

The incident started in New York City as the couple argued, leading the girlfriend to tell Tobias to take the train home while she drove back to Stamford, said Stamford polcie Sgt. Kelly Connelly. She later picked him up at the Stamford train station.

Officers were called to the area of Hope and Center streets at 8:35 p.m. Sunday on a report of a Kia car that had run into a fence with two people inside arguing, police said.

Tobias said she refused to drive him home and attempted to drop him off in the area of Hope and Center streets, police said. He said he grabbed the keys from her but gave them back after she elbowed him in the mouth, police said.

The woman, who Connelly said initially was reluctant to talk to police, then started to drive with Tobias still in the passenger seat, police said. He told officers he grabbed the steering wheel, causing the car to hit the fence, police said. He didn't give any reason for doing so.

However, the woman, said that after picking him up at the train station, the argument continued, with Tobias assaulting her as she drove until she stopped the car and ordered him out, police said. He pushed her, grabbed the keys and threatened her, saying she would regret it if she made him get out of the car, police said.

After she got her keys back and started to drive, Tobias punched, slapped, pulled her hair and placed his hands around her throat, before grabbing the wheels of the car sending it crashing into the fence, the woman told police.

Officers saw swelling to her left cheek, bruising under her right eye and blood along her chin, police said.

No information was available on his bond and court appearance.
