Cuomo Vetoes 'Bed Tax' for Westchester Towns and Villages

One of the vetoed bills would have benefitted Tuckahoe.

A tax on hotel rooms in some Westchester towns and villages was vetoed Monday by Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

The series of bills would have granted 13 municipalities the ability to add a 3 percent tax on every hotel room rented by customers, according to an article on lohud.com.

The “bed tax” would have been in addition to sales tax and the 3 percent county occupancy tax.

Towns covered by the vetoed bills were Greenburgh, Harrison and North Castle. The villages denied the tax were Mamaroneck, Port Chester, Tarrytown, Sleepy Hollow, Irvington, Ardsley, Elmsford, Dobbs Ferry, Hastings-on-Hudson and Tuckahoe, lohud.com reported.

In his veto message, Cuomo said he would revisit the issue if the statewide policy allowing hotel taxes on the county and city level was revised by the legislature.
