The wallpaper, dress, and color choices for this piece were inspired by the history of Scheele's Green, an arsenic containing pigment popularized in the Victorian era.

Breaking, Rectifying - a new illustration for (inhabit), which opened September 7, 2018 at Helikon Gallery. The show was curated by John Vogl and is filled with amazing nature themed artwork from female illustrators and artists.

This illustration is about life cycles in nature and focuses on the Tulip Breaking Virus, which causes beautiful streaks of color in tulips that eventually, through out generations of tulips, breaks and weakens the tulip’s genetic line until it can no longer survive.

Strength, inspired by the strength Tarot card, created initially for the Louder Coalition, organization dedicated to supporting and empowering survivors of sexual violence. The organization is no longer in operation, but the message of strength lives on.

The strength Tarot card traditionally shows a woman holding the mouth of a lion. The card is about expressing inner strength, enduring obstacles with composure, and understanding compassion and self-worth.

Poster for Process Group agency for Al Mulinetto Winery, advertising their Nocino, a type of liqueur made from green walnuts. The label for Al Mulinetto’s Nocino features a dapper rhino, so we incorporated a rhino enjoying the liqueur surrounded by green walnuts and leaves.

This illustration won the Bronze 2018 Swiss Poster Award in the Commercial Regional category.

Fig and Goat Cheese Pizza, for the Light Grey Art Lab show Foodies, which opened Friday, April 27th, 2018. 90 artists from around the world created artwork depicting their favorite recipe, as well as recipe cards for the show. This recipe is both gluten free and vegetarian, and one of my personal favorites.

Beware, the Black Shuck for the Light Grey Art Lab show Calamity, curated by Teagan White. Calamity opened Friday, October 28 in Minneapolis, MN.

A little about the lore that inspired the illustration: The Black Shuck is a ghostly, shaggy-haired black dog of British lore - and an omen of death. It prowls along the coastline and into forests, with its malevolent eyes glowing in the mist. To meet the Black Shuck would mean one’s death would occur before the end of the year.

The Pelasgian Creation Myth, an illustration for Botanica, a show celebrating the origin of our Earth, at Light Grey Art Lab. 

In the ancient Greek Pelasgian Creation Myth, the Goddess of All Things took the form of a dove, and from her egg all life sprouted forth. Her mate, the serpent Ophion, coiled around the egg until it hatched, spilling out the beautiful, the bizarre, and the decadent flora of the world. Passion flowers, figs, rafflesia, pitcher plants, titan arum and more erupted and covered the barren landscape.

A jumping fox, illustrated as part of a branding project for Zephyr & Luna, a France-based photographer.

"Tricksters" was created for the Tall Tales gallery show at ICON9, the Illustration Conference. The show opened July 8th, 2016 at the Lion's Nest Gallery in Austin, Texas. 

This illustration focuses on the trickster tall tales of Br'er Fox and Br'er Rabbit, popular stories in the Southern United States.

I illustrated a three card tarot spread, featuring the classic imagery of the Fool card, but with Frank Morton (the creator of this lettuce type) as the fool, standing on a big lettuce head dropping seeds. On the left is the Three of Cups, for celebration; on the right is the Ace of Wands, for creative new beginnings.

Beer label illustration for Heirloom Rustic Ale’s Sky Islands beer. Each label I illustrated features flora and fauna native to Oklahoma for the Tulsa-based brewery. Sky Islands incorporates a two scissor-tailed flycatchers with coneflowers surrounding a sky island, a unique geological feature of the area.

Illustration for the Light Grey Art Lab show Tobeyou, which opened March 3rd, 2017. The show was about personal narratives, so I chose to illustrate one of my first pets, Salty the ferret. Salty was always frolicking around, full of playful energy - even when she became sick and lost most of her hair. She was a good luck symbol to me, even though weasels are often associated with bad omens - so I illustrated good luck symbols around her, like acorns, a wishbone, a ladybug, a snail, a key, and a four leaf clover.

Lyra was created for Light Grey Art Lab's show Cosmos, celebrating the illuminated night sky with constellations and astral bodies. The illustrations were turned into a fiberoptic light display, as well as a tarot and oracle deck.

The show ran from October 30 - November 23rd at Light Grey Art Lab in Minneapolis, MN.

About the constellation: The great musician Orpheus was said to have the ability to charm all living things with his music. His instrument of choice was the lyre -- invented by Hermes, but perfected by Orpheus. Upon his death, Orpheus’ lyre was cast into the river, but Zeus ordered an eagle to retrieve the instrument. Zeus placed Lyra and Eagle among the stars.

Specimens, Collections and Curiosities is a collection of words and illustrations celebrating the natural world. From bones to flowers and moths to mushrooms, it explores the fleeting nature of time, the desire to collect, and the inherent beauty of flora and fauna. This book uses illustrated transparent overlays over each of the color illustrations. It totals 36 pages, including 24 color pages and 12 transparent pages.

I illustrated the Longbottom, Malfoy, Weasley, Potter, Black, Sayre, and Gaunt Family Trees and Portraits for Pottermore, the website for Harry Potter and J.K. Rowling's Wizarding World. 

For the Longbottom's, the portrait shows Neville with his grandmother who raised him, his pet toad Trevor, and a framed picture of his parents in the background. For the Malfoy's, the portrait shows a young Draco with his parents Lucius and Narcissa. For the Weasley's, the portrait shows their family trip to Egypt from the third book, the Prisoner of Azkaban. For the Potter's, the portrait shows Lily holding baby Harry, with James holding their cat. For the Black's, the portrait shows a young Sirius and his brother, Regulus, with their parents outside Number 12 Grimmauld Place. For the Sayre's, the portrait shows the four founders of the US wizarding school Ilvermorny (James, Isolt, Chadwick and Webster), along with James and Isolt's twin daughters as infants and with the Pukwudgie William. For the Gaunt's, the portrait shows Merope looking out the window at Tom Riddle Senior, with her father Marvolo and brother Morfin living in squalor.

Illustration of Peppered Moths for the Light Grey Art Lab show "Camouflage," which opened May 26th, 2017. 

The show featured work about blending in and adapting to your environment, so I focused on the evolution of the peppered moth: Almost all the peppered moths were light-colored, flecked with black spots, well-camouflaged against the trees and lichens they landed on, until the Industrial Revolution in England. The trees became blackened by the pollutants and soot in the air during this time period, and the darker peppered moths flourished because they could now blend into the trees. Since then, the light colored peppered moths have become common once more, due to the improved air quality. They once again blend into their environment.

Nature Walks is a personal piece inspired by collecting little bits and pieces of nature while walking around my hometown in North Carolina. There are two versions - one on a dark background and one on a light background - because it was applied to different products, like the notepad below.
