“A pair of friends circle the globe in this picture book tribute to the transformative effect of leaving home....a worthwhile...message about enjoying life’s journey.” - School Library Journal “Are you sitting comfortably?” Hedgehog asked? “Please put your seatbelt on.” Frog nodded and fastened his seatbelt. His friend started te car. “Here we go,” he said, “wave goodbye.” A heartwarming picture book about traveling together, sharing new experiences, and letting yourself be amazed by the world around you. For everyone ages 4 and up.
'On A Journey' by Flemish writer and illustrator Guido Van Genechten is a wonderful book about the joys of travel and the lesson that sometimes it's the journey, not the destination.
Hedgehog invites his friend frog along on the trip. Frog doesn't know where they are going, but wants to know when they will arrive. Hedgehog patiently doesn't answer. They travel on and on and see beautiful things. Eventually, they get back to their village and Frog learns things about himself. Hedgehog gives him a present to remind him about their journey.
The art in this book is so very good. Since the artist is from Europe, the art has a special look because the buildings don't look like what a normal American child would see. This adds a whimsical touch to the story. The lessons of journeys is told in a wonderful way. I really liked this book.

Frog and Hedgehog are going on a trip. As they go along, at first frog is impatient, asking "are we there yet?" a lot. But he soon grows comfortable with being in the moment and enjoying the new experiences. This book can teach patience and being in the moment as well as learning about yourself on a trip.

“He’d never known there were places where you could look so far.”
Hedgehog wants to take Frog on a journey. But Frog thinks the journey is about getting somewhere. Hedgehog tries to show him that the excitement is in the journey, not the destination. When they finally return to frog’s little village, everything has changed ... including frog.
This is a cute story about hedgehog and his friend frog going on a trip. Hedgehog is excited about the journey, but frog is more concerned with are we there. The illustrations were cute, lots of colours and some nice panoramas. This would be great to read to a child before their first road trip. The book did a good job of teaching kids things like putting on seat belts and that if you ask "are we there yet" a lot you might not get an answer. It is also a good way to show children to enjoy the drive, look around and see what you can see, not be worried about the destination so much.

I loved the illustrations in this picture book as well as the story. Frog's friend, Hedgehog takes him on a journey in his little red convertible car. Frog has never left his town so it is a grand adventure but he is also a bit scary. A fun little story for kids who are going to be going on an adventure or journey themselves. k (My Novelesque Life)
Frog and Hedgehog are starting a couple of months of adventures. For the first time outside his village, Frog is getting the taste of adventure and discovering the world. After going through a tunnel, and seeing the sea, and the view of mountains and beautiful cities, they are coming back different persons. This beautifully illustrated book is an invitation to opening the world and for more discoveries, both personal and along the journey. On a Journey tells a sweet story about two friends embarking on a road trip. Hedgehog helps Frog learn that a journey is not just about the destination but about enjoying the total experience. When Frog finally begins to notice the world around him he is full of wonder. This would be a fun book to read to a youngster before taking a road trip. The illustrations are adorable and a lot of fun to look at.

This simple story follows two animals on a long, long, roadtrip. Yes, someone does ask “Are we there yet?” The underlying message is to enjoy the journey—it’s not all about the destination, and travel can teach you things you didn’t expect.
The illustrations are cute and the story is just the right level of complexity for small children.
Are we there yet? No we are on a journey. We are off to see what all we can see. We may be gone days, or even months. We will change, our world will change, and our view of the world will change.
I thought that this was quite a fun book but I can't see it being a favourite. The images were good but I thought that story was quite long and could have been more short and punchy so its easier to follow for younger children. I received a copy of this in exchange for an honest review.
