Throughout his career, Jared Leto has given many great things to the world: a memorable collection of wigs in Dallas Buyers Club, useful pickup lines, and this amazing meme, to name a few. What he gives to his castmates, however, is a different story.

After gifting a pig’s corpse to fellow Suicide Squad actors last year, the Oscar-winning star, who plays The Joker in the upcoming comic book adaptation, told E! News he sent Will Smith, Margot Robbie, and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje used condoms and anal beads as a means to further identify with his character.

“I did a lot of things to create a dynamic, to create an element of surprise, of spontaneity, and to really break down any kind of walls that may be there,” Leto said. “The Joker is somebody who doesn’t really respect things like personal space or boundaries.”

Smith, who plays Deadshot, confirmed he received a few disturbing gifts from his costar, but indicated they served a purpose beyond shock value. “Jared went full Joker. The rule, generally, is never go full Joker, but he really set the tone. He wasn’t playing with it, he was dead serious. As an actor, he was going in… he really jarred [us],” Smith said.

Robbie, who appears in Suicide Squad as Harley Quinn, added: “I can’t even begin to tell you the things I got [from Jared]. By that point, I feel like I knew The Joker a bit, so it wasn’t as alarming, but yeah, there were many instances where I didn’t know what to expect from Jared.”

Viola Davis previously spoke to Vanity Fair about working with Leto on the film, revealing that he consistently gave the cast “horrifying” gifts throughout filming. “He had a henchman who would come into the rehearsal room, and the henchman came in with a dead pig and plopped it on the table, and then he walked out,” she said. “And that was our introduction into Jared Leto.”

The actor playing Killer Croc, Akinnuoye-Agbaje, also said the gifts “weren’t right,” but not for the reasons you might expect. “If you’re going to have that kind of party, at least invite The Croc. Don’t send me your dirty leftovers, that just isn’t right… You see why he ain’t part of The Squad, right? That’s just downright selfish.”

Suicide Squad hits theaters Aug. 5. Watch the cast chat about the ghastly things they received from Leto in the video below.
