CJ Tummings, 12, has qualified for the US Fencing National competition in San Jose CA June 27-July 6.

Now he just needs to raise enough money to get there and back home to Harrison, where he attends Louis M. Klein Middle School..

CJ’s coach, Alex Acevedo, started a GoFundMe site to help raise money so CJ can attend the competition.

CJ has been fencing with Peekskill Fencing Center since the age of seven. His family drives him up from Harrison to practice, Acevedo said. “While showing promise at a young age CJ has really come onto his own in the past two years.”

CJ took a place in the National Points list for Youth 10 and 12 in Foil. He was the Gold Medalist at the Thrust Fencing Regional Youth Circuit event in November. Most recently CJ was a Bronze Medalist at the Mission Fencing Center Super Regional Youth Circuit for the Y14 men’s Foil event. He was able to do this despite being seeded 74th at the beginning of the competition.

He has also gathered wins against several fencers in the top 10 and is one of the youngest fencers on the National Points list for Youth 14.

Being that the Nationals are in San Jose California this year it’s a burden for his family to take him, Acevedo said.
