A marina restaurant and bar is undergoing a major revamp under plans that will create an extra 20 jobs at the site.

The Mulberry in Conwy Marina closed shortly before Christmas and workmen moved in to carry out the refurbishment.

Work is set to be completed in April when the new site will be unveiled.

Once open the restaurant and bar, owned by the Robinsons Brewery chain, will employ around 50 people, 20 more than prior to the closure.

Simon Taylor, Retail Operations Manager for Robinsons Brewery, said: “The Mulberry will be closed until mid-April 2016 as we create a world-class marina side pub that takes full advantage of the excellent location and stunning views.

“We hope The Mulberry will become synonymous with excellent food and drink and with meeting and function facilities we hope to attract a broad range of clientele from businesses to our loyal regulars.

“Twenty extra jobs will be created with around 50 staff in total at the site.”

Conwy Marina opened in 1992 after the completion of the £190m Conwy Tunnel.

During the work on the tunnel a huge basin was excavated at Morfa Conwy where six large sections of the tunnel tube were cast.

This basin was then transformed into the marina with 500 pontoon berths for leisure boats. The Mulberry was built as part of this development.
