Abstract: OBJECTIVE To investigate the hypoglycemic effect of the Psidium guajava L. and Pyrus betulaefolia Bge. by pharmacological experiment researches of diabetic mice model induced by STZ. METHODS The mice with blood glucose ≥ 11. 1mmol / L were choosen as diabetic mice. There were 7 groups in the experiment: the normal group,the model group,the positive control group( Gliclazide tablets),Psidium guajava L.( 10 g / kg),Psidium guajava L.( 5 g / kg),Pyrus betulaefolia Bge.( 5 g / kg),Pyrus betulaefolia Bge.( 2.5 g / kg). The fasting glucose and glucose tolerance were measured 15 d after the last administration. Blood samples were taken from the orbital vein after 0,30,60,120 min intragastric administration of glucose solution,respectively; and blood glucose levels were measured at each time point,the AUC was calculated. RESULTS STZ can lead to elevated blood glucose,weight loss,and higher rate of diabetes into a mold,and maintain a longer time,not easy to self alleviate. Blood glucose and glucose tolerance in diabetic mice have a different degree of impact in different groups. CONCLUSION Both Psidium guajava L. and Pyrus betulaefolia Bge. both have hypoglycemic effect,and Psidium guajava L. is better.
