I flat out adored the first book in this series so I was very happy to be able to review the second before its release! (Thanks, Jessica!) Anyhow, this book is rocking from the very start, with hardly a moment of down-time for the whole book. The war that has been brewing boils over and everyone is touched. I loved the breakneck pace and new characters we get to meet and old characters we get to understand a little better. The truth of all that is being perpetrated by The Council, as much as is revealed, had me reeling, and I think it becomes increasingly clear to Elyse and everyone that there is no choice in what they have to do. I'm having a hard time saying anything else without giving away spoilers, so I'll sum this up by stating that if you enjoyed the first book you'll love Uprising!

Decedents of Greek gods, with their special powers, must fight to get her friends back...
Uprising (Children of the Gods #2) by Jessica Therrien takes off right where book one ended. It has the same wonderful characters and great fantasy. I found this book to be even better than the first book. More action, drama, mystery, and suspense involved. This series would be a great mini-series! Love the dialogue, plot and characters. (Even the evil ones, they are so well developed.) I must read fantasy series. I received a review copy of this book, a review was not required, all opinions are my own.

UPRISING was definitely better than Oppression-- and Oppression was really good already! I absolutely adore the Jessica's writing style and gosh, that TWIST at the end. It was heart-wrenching. Loved this story and I absolutely adore the romance.
Fast paced and engaging- what else could a reader ask for?

Can I just say that, I absolutely LOVE William... but my weakness has always been the brooding jerk who's blatantly honest and impulsive he'll drive you crazy, but you know he's good beneath all that indifference. Alaximandros is my new favorite descendant ;)
Uprising picks up right after Elyse and William escaped from The Council to go into hiding. As the last healer, the council members want Elyse. She is part of a prophecy meant to start a war amongst descendants and finally overthrow The Council to free their people from centuries of Opression. And even though she is now just starting to learn who and what she is, Elyse has made friends and allies willing to protect her and their families. In this next installment to her Children of the Gods series, Jessica Therrien brings readers romance, twist ladden turn, and heart stopping, edge-of-your-seat action.
I love Greek mythology based books. I think the Gods are some of the most fascinating mythological beings to grace the pages of our books and history. What Jessica Therrien has created with her Children of the Gods is a series sure to indulge all readers. Elyse, although she had been kept in the dark about her lineage for so long, is a strong, albeit sometimes stubborn and wreckless heroine. She is afraid, yet she pushes forward past her fears in order to embrace her new role as descendant. I really enjoyed watching her learn combat and seeing her take role as leader. There were plenty of moments of frustration where I would have strangled her, but she grows as the story progresses, and for me that was her saving grace.
The romance part of this story was done beautifully. But what I liked most was finding that it didn't completely override everything that was happening around the descendants. Yes, there are sweet moments with Elyse and William, but they weren't the complete focus. But Jessica Therrien threw me a curve ball with these two I was so not expecting... it's a love triangle of Epic Proportions. (And it's not my Alaximandros if you're curious ;)
William is as beautiful as ever, but I felt like he was dismissed one too many times, and Elyse keeping secrets did not sit well with me. I didn't like it at all, though I understand what she must have been going through. Especially because William was always so comforting and supportive, ready to protect her.
We see new descendants, both good and bad, but one in particular who caught my attention that seemed like he didn't quite belong on the side he chose to fight in. I still found him utterly entertaining though. Alaximandros, or Alex, became my new favorite descendant. He had such an attitude, but he wasn't afraid to speak his mind or walk on eggshells around Elyse, and I loved him more for it. Everyone seemed to want to keep her in this protective bubble, and I understand, but it was necessary for her to know what she'd be facing.
The first part of the book is non too eventful, but it quickly picks up as Elyse finds out about her best friend Anna and her daughter, Chloe, are taken hostage. Now Elyse must decide who to ally with and what price she's willing to pay to save not only her human friends, but save her people. One thing I never expected was the twist at the end. To say I am heartbroken is putting it mildly. But I loved Uprising from start to finish and I can't wait to see what's next for our Children of the Gods.

Being one of the most anticipated books of 2013, I wanted Uprising to blow me away. And it definitely did. Jessica Therrien's talent of weaving Greek mythology into Elyse's story is so enchanting that I couldn't stop reading. The book is a little short of going over 400 pages and so a lot of things happen. The plot was unpredictable and dangerous if I say so and so I never knew how it it would all turn out. In the end, that what made Uprising such an enjoyable read for me.
Elyse is definitely one of those characters who changes gradually and to see her go from a shy and reserved person to a leader who will ultimately might be the most important is amazing. I liked her strong will and how she acted under all the pressure and expectations of the other Descendants. Her life isn't made to be an easy one and it only goes on to show her strength and capacity to handle herself in the worst of times. And boy, what worst of times they were!
William is a solid rock for Elyse to lean on at all times but it is war and anything can happen. It was interesting to read about William's strong will fight over his protective one. He definitely wants Elyse to be the leader but when it means that she could get hurt, it tortures him. But I have to admire his character the most, he has definitely grown since Oppression and I was relieved to know that he doesn't fall into any cliched scenarios.
The war is inevitable and with Christoph determined to get his way, it is clear that he wants something from Elyse. As the story progresses, more and more of Christoph's intentions are revealed and the whole picture is a true face of evil. It also weakens Elyse's into thinking that it's all a futile cause and she'll end up either alone or dead. But there are people who want out of the opression, people willing to help Elyse with her cause.
And so it goes. The story is action-packed and the secondary character play important roles especially Kara and Alex. It's also interesting to read about the abilities of Descendants introduced in the book. The war, the new oracle, the betrayers all come together in this explosive continuation of Children of the Gods series. I loved it! Three kudos to Jessica Therrien! So cannot wait for book three, mythology for the win.

This book was just plain awesome!
First of all, GREEK MYTHOLOGY! I probably don't have to repeat that I adore Greek mythology, but there you go, I love it! One thing I absolutely love about Jessica's take on the Greek gods is that she took something everyone knows and created something completely new! It's great, and very refreshing! And she mentions some minor gods and goddesses that you don't hear about often! Take Loxo, for example. I had no idea who she was until I did a little research and found out she was a nymph and companion of Artemis who presided over the power of trajectory. As a fan of mythology, I love that every time I read one of Jessica's books, I learn about a new deity :)
Which brings me to my next point: new characters and more awesome powers! I really enjoyed the introduction of new, such as Alex. He has a really cool power and even though he was sometimes borderline rude, I actually really liked him. There was a point where I wondered if he was a friend or foe, but...I'll let you figure that out on your own ;)
And then there are the characters we already know, like Kara. Believe it or not, she is one of my favorite characters! There's just so much depth in depth in and she is a really interesting character. I also love that she is a loyal friend.
Elyse is such a strong, brave character! She has all these things thrown at her, she's expected to lead Descendants into a war...she's basically Atlas with a load of responsibility on her shoulders! But she's a tough cookie and handles it pretty well. Of course, she's got Will to back her. Oh Will, what can I say about him? He's absolutely amazing! He is SO sweet and gorgeous and swoon-worthy! And he and Elyse...stuff happens! Good and bad stuff, unfortunately...
Speaking of which, this book had A TON of twists and turns I did not see coming! Something happens to Will, something happens to Elyse...basically something happens to everyone that is not too great (trying not to put major spoilers here...but it's So hard!) I really like a book that can surprise me like that and make my jaw drop to the floor and make me go "Oh My Gods! That did NOT just happen!"
The story also had a ton of action, which I also love, suspense, and ROMANCE! *sigh* When it wasn't one thing it was another, so the story never fell flat.
So, basically, this book was overall great and I HIGHLY recommend this series to everyone, especially those who love mythology and paranormal romance! And now I'll leave you with a few of my favorite quotes:
When love is plucked from your heart, little is left to keep you sane. -Elyse
Solitude is a special kind of torture. It uses your thoughts against you, until your own mind is one thing you're most afraid of. -Elyse

Like a moth drawn into firelight, Uprising immediately pulled me in with nothing but the impulse to consume it. Like a moth drawn into firelight, I was not prepared for what I would encounter until it was too late before I discovered what Uprising did to me.
After my initial acquaintance and fascination to another reimagined world of Greek mythology, Therrien presents a more complex, more intense, and more gripping premise with the second installment of her Children of The Gods series. When I began to read the book, there was no need to be reintroduced to its setting or its characters. My mind completely plunged into the book until I didn't realize I was brought to a more chaotic side of its world. Despite its sometimes slow and steady pace, Uprising floods with different elements all happening at once: heart-stopping actions, shocking discoveries, and appalling scenes. I couldn't take my eyes off Uprising, not even for once.
Apart from the enthralling premise of Uprising, let’s not forget the sensational characters that brought this series with life. If Elyse was once a hermit who rather tucks herself inside her shell, this time, Elyse is presented as a stronger character as she accepts the responsibility to lead a rebellion and change the course of the future of the Descendants despite the struggles and circumstances she’s undergoing especially with her relationship with William. Kara, one of my favorite characters, just blew me away and I still want more of her especially with the new friend that female readers will swoon over. New characters both allies and enemies are introduced as well as they take out the best and worst in Elyse and William’s relationship and their individual lives while readers will try to weigh things out among those who has the best of intentions, those who are just playing along, and those who has the worst of intentions.
But what truly made this book remarkable is the romance. It is lovelier the second time around yet it’s not what it seems to be at first. The romance was powerfully and affectingly delivered not until Therrien dramatically tossed in an unforeseen climax which I really believe will crush anyone’s heart. Mind you, this is only one of the heartbreaking moments in Uprising. Readers should prepare themselves for this book. Expect not only action-packed scenes but expect tons of emotional and heartbreaking scenes as well throughout the book. Therrien definitely knows how to play with her reader’s emotions.
In this much awaited second installment to the Children of The Gods series, Uprising will pull readers into a world that now crackles with flaming defiance, where stakes are higher, and the dangers are closer than ever. It explodes with an uprising of different emotions and thoughts that an author like Jessica Therrien could give. If you loved Oppression, you will love Uprising more. Hence, readers will be clamoring for more just as I am.

Uprising is the sequel in the Children of Gods series and it came one year after Oppression. I was thoroughly impression with this swing on modern Greek Mythology. I was excited to the point of incoherence in my last review and was even more thrilled to receive an ARC review copy this time around.
And yet...
The second I read the first page, I drew a blank. While Uprising started right where Oppression left off, I was disoriented. I had only a vague memory of the last account of Elise and William. Lucky for me Jessica Therrien filled in the gaps with bite sized snippets. And it all came rushing back...
There's decedents of Gods that live among us and they have been oppressed for far too long. Now they are on the brink of civil war. Through an ancient prophecy, Elyse is the key to their salvation. There was a scene at the end of Oppression that left the two's fate unknown.
Elyse and William, assumed dead, must run and prepare to lead a race of half immortals. Christophe, the council member with the ability to "off switch" the power of any descendant who opts to rise against him, knows Elyse survived! While Elyse is flagged untouchable, this madman has other bait to make her yield to his will and he's not afraid to hit below the belt.
Uprising was was a step up in this series- a high octane adventure that hit on romance, action, and suspense. One thing however that was simply agony was Elyse's omission of information. Her method for protecting the love of her life was through secrecy and "that" I found unacceptable. Her physical & mental growth and thrust is a journey in this novel. In Oppression, I wished for a kick ass heroine. In Uprising, I was given ass kicking in doves! Uprising was total chaos with moments of peace. The reader gets glimpses of Elyse's struggle to lead as well as into the origins of the enemy's villainy. Elyse and William's relationship progresses as well. Their chemical dynamics was simmering. I just wanted to melt into a puddle on the floor. They were simply a-dor-able. I savored every single twist in the plot. Their onsets were unanticipated and the execution and follow through simply superb! I crave more Children of Gods.

Jessica Therrien has built a world that’s like Percy Jackson meets X-Men, and Uprising is the second thrilling installment in her Children of the Gods series.
Uprising is the sequel to Oppression, and it kicks into high gear as soon as you flip to the first page.
Elyse is preparing for war. It’s inevitable, and even though she’s reluctant to fight — to kill — she knows there’s no other choice. It’s her or them. Christoph’s followers or Elyse’s family and friends. And she won’t let anyone harm those she loves.
But it’s too late for that. Kara comes back with news that Anna and Chloe have been taken, and around every corner it feels like there’s death and destruction. Friends are going missing and turning up dead, and Elyse feels powerless.
But she’s not. She digs deep to find the leader in herself, because that’s what the other Descendents need right now. They need someone who is strong and confident and has a plan. While Elyse can’t help but doubt herself, she’ll do anything in her power to protect those she’s sworn to keep safe. The time of oppression is over. Now it’s time for an uprising.
Therrien’s followup novel to Oppression definitely packs a punch. The action starts right away, and it doesn’t relent for more than a few minutes at a time. Elyse, William, Kara and the others jump from situation to situation, barely able to stay a step ahead of Christoph and the plan he has for Elyse.
The depiction of war in this book is both real and heart-wrenching. Being on the run with nowhere to turn is terrifying, and the loss of friends and family is something each character comes to experience. Therrien isn’t afraid to torture her characters — or her readers — and Uprising is all the more gripping because of it.
Uprising continues the rich world that Therrien built in Oppression. It combines an exhaustive and exciting list of Greek deities and Descendant abilities with a smooth storyline that delivers laughs, tears, and punches to the gut from page to page.

Therrien’s followup novel to Oppression definitely packs a punch. The action starts right away, and it doesn’t relent for more than a few minutes at a time. Elyse, William, Kara and the others jump from situation to situation, barely able to stay a step ahead of Christoph and the plan he has for Elyse.
The depiction of war in this book is both real and heart-wrenching. Being on the run with nowhere to turn is terrifying, and the loss of friends and family is something each character comes to experience. Therrien isn’t afraid to torture her characters — or her readers — and Uprising is all the more gripping because of it.
Uprising continues the rich world that Therrien built in Oppression. It combines an exhaustive and exciting list of Greek deities and Descendant abilities with a smooth storyline that delivers laughs, tears, and punches to the gut from page to page.

I absolutely adored the first book in this series, Oppression Children of the Gods, and have been patiently waiting the next book to make its appearance. Uprising did not disappoint. I mean, I read it in a little over a day. I just couldn't put it down!
It begins right where the last book left off. It had been so long since I had read the first book, it took me a few chapters to remember everything that had happened (but it did come back to me). I love Elyse. She is unsure of herself and how to lead, but she is also incredibly strong. I love the maturity of Therrien's characters. They're not whiny or stupid or annoying. I mean, the majority of them are around 90 years old. Dear William was wonderful. I got really mad at Elyse for hiding certain things from him, but loved his reaction when she finally opened up to him.
I also enjoyed getting to know some of the new characters, especially Mac and Alex. I'm looking forward to seeing more of them.
If you enjoy mythology, I'd definitely recommend this series (I mean, obviously read Oppression first). There is a little bit of everything. I really really like this series, and am very much looking forward to the next book.

What a good second installment! I actually liked it more than the first! Elyse grew so much and grew on me. If you remember right, Kara was my favorite character in the last book and while Elyse still didn’t surpass her in this one she was VERY close I just loved her development. It was so believable. She was strong only because she had to be. She didn’t turn into Supergirl which was refreshing. So many authors make that mistake, to turn their shy heroine into a super badass. Jessica Therrien didn’t do that. Thank God.
Her relationship with William was a tad on the mushy side at first but AGAIN Therrien put in some solid plot moves that wowed me. I’ll leave them untold since it’d ruin the ride for you.
We several new characters, one in particular that I especially liked. His name is Alex and he’s Kara’s sort of love interest. Hey Jessica, can I get a spin-off? Pretty please?

Okay absoltely loved this book, it was amazing!!!!!!
I ahven't read the first book cause I haven't been able to find it anywhere but I was still able to follow the plot quite easily and I must say it was fanatastic, there was a lot of thought put into it and it was fantastically laid out. The characters were all perfectly construcuted and I abloslutely loved Elyse, but I have a soft spot for william!!!!! He is just soooooo sweet, and I wouldn't mind marrying him myself!!!! Elyse is lucky to have him!

Holy wow. I never thought about how hard it would be to have everyone and everything depend on your decisions. Elyse had so much on her plate and the way that Therrien wrote the story was just amazing! A full range of emotions are captured in this book, it was sometimes too much to read. I hope there's another book on the way! I have to know what happens with William and the new Oracle!

This book was so good. It was so action packed I was really upset when it was over. I hope the series will continue cause I need to know what happens to Elyse and William!!! I've been sucked into these books from day 1. Congrats to the wonderful Mrs. Therrien for painting a beautiful picture and telling a great story.

I found this book better than the first . Easy , fast paced reading . You really begin to get to know the characters and the story develops nicely with an ending leaving you wanting to read the third book instantly . Thankyou to tbc for my arc copy in exchange for an honest review

I walked the muddy shore, making my way to the tree I’d
leaned against when William had healed my burns so many
months ago.
I’d find him, I told myself. No matter what I had to do.
After everything I’d been through, my soul knew what it
wanted, and it was willing to sacrifice anything to get it. My
world. My pride. My life. Something in me sought without
reason. It pulled me through the unseen, toward the only
thing that mattered.
Then I saw him sitting against our tree, looking away
from me. The wind blew his golden hair forward, his strong
forearms rested against his knees. I needed nothing else. My
heart stretched, reached, like flowers toward the sun. Like
the moon on dark nights. Like hope in the deepest, emptiest
places.
“William,” I called out. His head turned, and our eyes
met.
I walked toward him, then ran, my face twisting into that
awful scowl everyone makes before they cry. I was not
beautiful in that moment, but somehow I knew he saw
beauty in me. He stood when I reached him, amazement in
his eyes, like I wasn’t real. His hand touched my face. I never
appreciated it before, the simple touch of his hand to my
cheek. Now it was everything.
“How are you here?” I asked. His aching eyes moved over
my face, like he was trying to memorize every part of me.
“Do you . . . remember?”
He shook his head. “Nothing but this. Frenchman’s Lake.
I don’t know why. We were fighting Antec, then . . . I just
showed up here.”
I closed my eyes, and my heart slowed. “It’s where we said
we would meet if we ever lost each other.”
He remembered. Even if it was only the lake. It was
something. Nothing in his eyes told me he had forgotten me.
His gaze fell to my stomach. “I had no idea. Is it . . .”
“Ours.” I smiled, pressing his palm to my belly. He
touched my face with the other, his thumb grazing my
cheek. I welcomed his kiss like warm skin on cold nights,
and we clung to each other. Afraid to pull our lips apart,
afraid to ever let go.

Woo!! Book two! I was so excited for book two since I loved Oppression. Uprising was one of my most anticipated reads of the year and it did not disappoint me.
I loved seeing the growth of Elyse over the two books. In book one she was shy, if not a little scared of the world. She was reserved, she kept to herself and kept people at arms length except Anna and Chloe. But over the course of events in the two books, Elyse grows into such a strong, pragmatic, leader who doesn't crack under the pressure of the Descendants or the prophecy. If anything, it only gives her more conviction and strength.
Uprising is action packed. From learning more about Christoph and how creepy and evil he is, to gathering allies to legitimate battles, there is no shortage of things happening. Jessica threads it all together wonderfully without missing a beat. There are twists, turns, lots of death (it is war, after all) and tears. I was a little worried about a particular plot point and how it was going to turn out but I worried for naught; it fit into everything wonderfully and the story would have been off without it.
The mythology throughout the book was also phenomenal. I loved learning about all the different abilities that the Descendants we were introduced to had. There was such a variety of them that I have to applaud Jessica for her creativity.
Overall, I really enjoyed Uprising. It didn't suffer from the sophomore book slump that some do. It was well paced, action packed and very enjoyable. Definitely pick up Oppression if you haven't already started the series and then pick up Uprising right after!!

After reading Opression I was so thrilled to be able to continue straight away with the series! I really enjoyed this book, though I still prefer the first. Much like the first book, this one had Elyse as a strong, kickass character, but I wish there had been more action all the time. I understand why the first book lacked in action at times, but this one seemed to move too slowly sometimes and made me miss the action. However, the book had plenty of action by chapter seven and kept it going right through the end.
This book definitely expanded the politics of the descendants and the reasoning behind the council and Elise's fight for freedom. It developed some of the council members more thoroughly and presented reasoning behind their actions.
Lastly, I really liked how this book flowed seamlessly from the first and portrayed real life. It kept all of the emotions appropriate to each situation and they were definitely raw and real. I could imagine myself doing, saying, and feeling the same way as Elyse and some of the other characters. The book was also a nice lead-in to the third book!
Overall, I really enjoyed Uprising but did miss some of the action from the first book. I definitely enjoyed the plot and character development in this book and can't wait to continue with the series!

Uprising is the second book of the trilogy about the Children of the Goods.
It took off right were the first one ended. Which means that the story was in full force onward. I liked the fact that the writer expected the reader to have read the first book so the story flowed easily onwards without much update or snippets from previous books. It continued on with a good pace and gripped me more than book 1, maybe because of so fast start in this one and so much action from the beginning.
It was easy to picture the scenes and the people since their characters and what drives them had become clearer in these difficult times they face.
Elyse is now prepared to be the leader of the group although she finds it hard and doesn‘t always know how to best do that. She is surrounded with friends and other descendants who are preparing for war that will surely come with the Council. They help her guide her way and Kara and Elyse get very close as they are helping each other. She finally accepts that she is the person that the prophecy is about and it has to be fulfilled at a great cost to herself and her people and those who have switched sides from the enemy. The love story between Elyse and William continuous. I really look forward to reading the third and last story of the trilogy.

Elyse and her friends are back for more adventures in this second book of the "Children Of The Gods" Trilogy.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and would definitely say that the series is a strong new entry to the Young Adult paranormal genre.
Uprising sees our favourite heroes and villains return, this time though things are getting serious. Will Elyse and her friends escape the clutches of the council? Will they succeed in creating a world that is free and fair for the descendants? Will Elyse and William's whirlwind romance continue to grow?
This book is much faster paced than the first one, the characters are coming into their own and Jessica Therrien weaves a tale of excitement and wonder. The plot is more action filled and the descendants finally get to shine and show off their abilities.
It is definitely a Young Adult series and, as such, does not have the epic depths and complexity of more adult fantasy novels, but I nonetheless really enjoy reading these books.

Myth and fantasy come together in this telling of the children of Greek gods and the lengths they will go through to free other like themselves. Elyse had returned and she wants her friends freed. This act required more action, drama, suspense, and added intrigue with the twist and turns through in.
There are a host of old and new character to fall in love with. A romance to follow and see where it goes if anywhere. The plot moves along at a good clip. The intrigue of the powers of each child of the gods was alluring. It captivated me to look further and see more. The misdeeds and secrets of the Council.
I got further wrapped in the plots and conspiracies of the gods. I found that Elyse and her cast of friends and acquaintances were in for much more than they initial were prepared for. The revelations gave meaning to actions. The twist and the turns may just pull a few heart strings. The balance makes things from the first book seem more as a prelude to the coming actions. I am very interested in the next addition to the fast pace fantasy on mythology.

liked book 1 but I loved book 2! It was filled with nonstop action! Elyse really starts to mature and understands and learns to use her abilities in this installment. Learning about the Greek gods is honestly so interesting and involved. I think it's interesting that Elyse shows her weaknesses but learns how important she is as the story continues. I enjoyed seeing her romance with William evolving and then the author putting a romantic triangle in place is fun. Ms.Therrien does a wonderful job with character development, especially with the secondary characters. It makes the story more realistic when you have an understanding of how everyone is entwined in the story. I can't wait to read the next installment. This book is full of action, suspense and discoveries. I'm finding these books easy to follow and read and they truly have the 'just one more page' feeling about them.
Uprising continues to follow Elyse as she discovers more about her prophetic role in the Descendant community. She has to learn to lead and she has to learn fast if she wants to fight the Council. Will she manage it??? You'll have to read on to find out how things turn out! It's on to book three for me!
