In case you never noticed, there was a 60hp gap between the Macan S and Turbo variants, so Porsche decided to split the difference with a new GTS model.

Making its world premiere at this week’s Tokyo Motor Show, the new Macan GTS gets a tuned version of the ‘S’ model’s 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6 massaged to 360PS (355hp) at 6,000rpm and 500Nm (369 lb-ft) of torque between 1,650-4,000 rpm, an increase of 20hp and 40Nm (30 lb-ft) respectively.

A standard seven-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission is combined with Porsche’s Traction Management system (PTM), with the Macan GTS hitting 100km/h (62mph) from standstill in 5.2 seconds, or as low as 5.0 seconds (0-60mph in 4.8 sec) if you get the optional Sport Chrono Package. Top speed is rated at 257km/h or 160mph.

Porsche says it has also recalibrated the Stability Management system, upgraded the brakes to 360 mm front rotors, with six-piston fixed calipers finished in red, and 330 mm rear rotors, with single-piston calipers, also in red, and added a sports exhaust system and air suspension, with the GTS riding 10mm lower than the Turbo.

Subtle exterior tweaks include a host of black exterior accents and 20-inch ‘RS Spyder’ style alloy wheels in Satin Black, with Porsche’s LED headlights featuring four-point daytime running lights offered as an option. On the inside, the GTS gets standard leather sport seats, upgraded audio infotainment system, and – you guessed it, as an option, a GTS Package with Carmine Red tachometer and deviated stitching, seat belts, and embroidered GTS logos on the headrests.

In the US, the 2017 Macan GTS will reach dealers on March 2016, with a starting MSRP of $67,200 excluding destination.
