First he and the a cappella group Pentatonix paid a touching tribute to late Earth, Wind & Fire founder Maurice White, and moments later he charmed the audience with a humorous but heartfelt call for universal accessibility. While presenting the award for song of the year, Wonder opened the envelope, flashed its contents, and teased, “You all can’t read this, huh?” The winner — Ed Sheeran, for “Thinking Out Loud” — was written in braille, and Wonder took a moment to heighten the suspense.
