CAN anyone help us identify these jovial drinkers?

This timely picture, submitted to Looking Back by Joan Masters of Frampton, near Dorchester, is of a group of friends enjoying a drink on VJ Day, August 15 1945.

Today marks 70 years and three days since the ending of the Second World War since Japan's surrender.

The people in the picture are outside the then-Good Hope pub at Hermitage, near Sherborne.

Joan said: "My uncle, Ken Hawkins, who died recently, had wanted his son Les, my cousin, to endeavour to find out the names of all those pictured.

"Although Ken has now gone, we would like to carry out his wish if we can.

"Ken said he was on the extreme left and he could remember two brothers, Merv and Mouse Burt, but didn't remember which ones in the photo they were.

"The man in the back row on the right might have been the pub landlord, a Mr White.

The Hawkins family lived at nearby Hillfield and worked for Mr Perry, a farmer there.

Another brother Wilf, and two sisters, Kathleen and Jean lived at home at the time too.
