Sidelined by back problems for the last three months, Ken Wregget returned and didn’t miss a beat against the NHL’s hottest team.

Wregget, in goal for the first time since Nov. 3, made 28 saves as the Calgary Flames ended Colorado’s franchise-record 12-game winning streak Tuesday night.

“I think the biggest thing for myself was just dropping the puck in the opening second, and anything after that was gravy,” Wregget said. “I feel very fortunate it happened the way it did.”

Theo Fleury and Andrei Nazarov provided the scoring for the Flames, who handed Colorado its first loss since a 3-2 defeat at Detroit on Jan. 9.

“It’s too bad,” Colorado goaltender Patrick Roy said. “We played so well in that stretch. It’s sad to see it end, but I guess it had to stop one day. It’s too bad it happened tonight.”

The Avalanche, coming off an impressive four-game road trip, fell five games shy of the NHL record held by the Pittsburgh Penguins, who won 17 straight during the 1992-93 season.

“It doesn’t matter,” defenseman Aaron Miller said. “It gives us an opportunity to start another one. It wasn’t going to last forever.”
