MLB trade rumors: Latest news, buzz around potential deadline deals

• The Cubs have acquired pitcher Tommy Hunter from the Orioles, reports Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports. The Orioles will receive Junior Lake, reports Joel Sherman of the New York Post.

• The Mets have acquired Yoenis Cespedes, reports Bruce Levine of WSCR-AM. The Tigers will receive righthanded pitchers Michael Fulmer and Luis Cessa, reports Sherman.

• The Padres did not make the wave of trade deadline moves they were expected to because general manager A.J. Preller believes his team can reach the postseason, reports Rosenthal. San Diego is eight games out of first place in the NL West and 7 1/2 games out of the second Wild Card spot. The Padres also did not feel any pressure from team ownership to offload contracts for a lighter payroll, reports ESPN's Jerry Crasnick.

• The Padres talked to six teams on Friday who were interested in Craig Kimbrel, reports Bob Nightengale of USA Today. The Red Sox, Yankees and Astros were all vying to acquire the Padres closer, according to reports. The Yankees were reportedly willing to include top prospect Jorge Mateo in a deal for Kimbrel as well as take Jedd Gyorko, reports Heyman.

• The Indians did not trade pitcher Carlos Carrasco, reports Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports, even though a “slew of teams” were reportedly interested in him. The Cubs, Dodgers and Red Sox inquired about the righthander. Carrasco will not be a free agent until 2019.

• Outfielder Jay Bruce is not in the Reds' lineup on Friday, but Rosenthal says that was a planned day off.

• The Reds were reportedly willing to trade Bruce to the Mets for injured pitcher Zack Wheeler, but the negotiations lost momentum, reports Crasnick.

• The Indians asked the Dodgers about trading pitcher Alex Wood as part of a larger deal, reports Rosenthal.

• The Rangers ended up keeping pitcher Yovani Gallardo, CBS's Jon Heyman reports. The Dodgers, Blue Jays and Cubs were considered the “big three” involved in talks for Gallardo, Heyman reports. The Rangers are four games out of the second AL Wild Card spot.

• The Diamondbacks talked with the Reds about closer Aroldis Chapman but ultimately came up short, reports Nightengale.

• The Blue Jays have acquired outfielder Ben Revere from Philadelphia, reports MLB.com's Todd Zolecki.

• The Rays have traded pitcher Kevin Jepsen to the Twins, reports Rosenthal. The Rays will receive two minor leaguers, Chih-Wei Hu and Alexis Tapia, the team announced.

• The Blue Jays have acquired Mariners reliever Mark Lowe in exchange for three minor league pitchers: Nick Wells, Jacob Brentz and Rob Rasmussen, the team announced.

• The Marlins have traded pitcher Dan Haren to the Cubs, reports Gordon Wittenmyer of the Chicago Sun-Times. The Cubs will send pitcher Ivan Pineyro and shortstop Elliot Soto to Miami, reportsBaseball America's J.J. Cooper.

• The Phillies have officially traded Cole Hamels, Jake Diekman and $9.5 million to the Rangers in exchange for pitcher Matt Harrison​ and five minor leaguers, Philadelphia announced Friday. Hamels will start for the Rangers on Saturday, Stark reports.

• The Brewers traded pitcher Jonathan Broxton to the Cardinals for minor league outfielder Malik Collymore, the team announced.

• Teams continued to check in with the White Sox about the availability of Jeff Samardzija, reports Heyman. But with Chicago sitting 3 1/2 games back of the second AL Wild Card spot, Samardzija was not dealt.

• The Orioles have acquired Brewers outfielder Gerardo Parra to Baltimore in exchange for minor league pitcher Zack Davies, Rosenthal reports.

• There were rumors that Braves pitcher Julio Teheran was available for trade, but he was not on the market, Heyman reports. The price for Teheran was likely very steep, Heyman reports.
