The Best Cities for Women in Tech

The tech industry’s gender diversity problem is a problem for all of us. Some cities, however, seem to be doing better than others when it comes to equal pay and job growth for women in tech.

SmartAsset has identified the best cities for women in tech based on: the percent of women in the tech workforce, female-to-male earnings ratio, income after housing cost, and three-year employment growth for women. They only considered cities with at least 200,000 residents and a large tech workforce, then they ranked the 54 cities that met those criteria.

Washington DC tops the list, with women making up over 37% of the tech workforce, likely because of federal government hiring policies. Tech startup-filled Kansas City, Missouri is second—one of the only two cities in the study where women in tech don’t face a gender pay gap. The full list is below, but head to SmartAsset to read descriptions of the top cities and why they’re more welcoming to women in tech.
