Jaromir Jagr passes Gordie Howe for third in NHL points (Video)

Florida Panthers forward Jaromir Jagr broke a tie with Detroit Red Wings great Gordie Howe for third place on the NHL’s all-time points list with an assist Monday against the Boston Bruins.

The 44-year-old Jagr nudged the puck at the end on a scrum in front of Bruins goaltender Tuukka Rask. Florida forward Aleksander Barkov corralled the puck and fired a shot past Rask to give Jagr the helper. A video of the play is above.

The Bruins challenged the goal for goaltender interference, but the score stood.

It was Jagr’s 1,851st point of his NHL career in his 1,613th career game. Howe reached 1,850 points in 1,767 games. Jagr’s assist was his 49th point of the season, which leads the Panthers.

"It's more for you guys (in the media)," Jagr said after the game. "It's behind me now. Let's concentrate on wins."

Jagr spent the 2008-09 season through 2010-11 in the KHL with Omsk. He ranks nith all-time in NHL games played.

Next up for Jagr is second-pace Mark Messier, who had 1,887 points in 1,756 games in his career. Jagr moved past Brett Hull for third on the NHL’s all-time goal scoring list earlier in the season. He has 743 goals so far in his career. Messier hit 1,851 points in 1,691 games played.
