I purchased a Paul Reed Smith PRS SE Mark Tremonti Vintage Cherry SE Signature Electric Guitar to provide contrast to my 2010 MIM Fender Telecaster (pretty much a Standard setup), which I am totally hooked on. I really like the PRS. It played real nice right out of the box and provides those much deeper "Les Paul" tones I was looking for. The action was just about right as it came out of the box. I think the only thing I will change is the nut, which is plastic, and the strings. They are super light, which is fine with me but I'm going to try pure nickel to see how that affects the tone. I'm not sure you can beat this guitar for the money. The cherry finish is gorgeous. Even my wife thinks it is beautiful....and it is compared to the workhorse Tele.
Bought this guitar just to get a PRS in my collection. I have been playing guitar for 40 years and own several guitars - they range from $500 to $3000. I know this is a cheaper PRS but it plays very nice. I replaced the strings with "Extra Slinky" (8's) and adjusted the neck to lower the action a little. Sweet! The fit and finish is better than you find on much more expensive guitars. It is a heavy guitar but not a problem. Great sustain and sound is good. For the money this is a great value. Anyone looking for a starter guitar should look for one of these as they are easy to play and it is a guitar you will keep. I have played the expensive PRS guitars and they just could not justify the price tags. This one was priced right!
I was very lucky to buy this guitar. They were made for only a few years. This is one of the first made. I got it for a great price.
