The Discovery Sport is the cheapest entry ticket into the world of Land Rover, not to mention the fact that its looks may even fool some people into believing you’re driving a Range Rover.

The folks from Consumer Reports had their first contact with the British compact SUV and their conclusions were not that positive.

Despite the fact that it lacks low range gearing, the Discovery Sport is quite capable off-road thanks to the Terrain Response system which offers various driving modes for different road surfaces.

Tom Mutchler drove the mid-level Discovery Sport HSE, which is pretty well-equipped. However, it’s quite expensive ($49,895) and it doesn’t drive that well, with the reviewer saying he expected more from it. He does not offer details about what’s wrong with the Discovery Sport’s handling, but we suspect we’ll learn more about that from a more detailed upcoming review.

One thing is certain: this is not an overly enthusiastic review as we’ve seen from some UK-based media outlets.
