Tumblr! They’re here. Communities are finally here.

Communities are a new and easy way to connect with the people on Tumblr who get it. You can invite mutuals who share your obsessions to a private Community or start a public Community for the things you love and watch all the new friends pile in. Like a clown car, Communities can fit (almost) as many people in ‘em as you want.

Today, we’re hatching Communities out of their beta shell and launching them at your collective Tumblr experience—for you to enjoy and tinker with as we continue to build them out. We’re talking globally, on web, iOS, and Android. Buckle up, baby. We’re going to be so normal about this.

You can make a Community for just about anything. Art. Gravity Falls. Knitting. Your current D&D campaign. Photography. Obscure ships. The gay people in your phone. Music. Science. Fashion. Design. Baldur’s Gate 3. You’re the wielder of your own destiny. And, thanks to our delightful early testing users, there are already so many for you to join. Hazbin Hotel? Check. Arcane? Check. The Phandom? Check, check, check.

How do you get started?

  • You can browse Communities over here
  • Find specific Communities by tapping the Communities tab at the top of the search results page.
  • Want to create your very own Community? Right this way, maestro.
  • Here’s a help doc for any questions you might have.

We’re excited to see what you do with this. Go forth, hang out, have fun.

Tumblr Tuesday: Hansry is Canon!

One of the best moments in fandom is when a ship you love to ship becomes a canonical ship. And, of course, there's nothing Tumblr likes more than a bickering lord and his underling. This Tumblr Tuesday is dedicated to Henry of Skalitz and Hans Capon of Pirkstein, who have been canonized as lovers in the recent release of Kingdom Come: Deliverance II. Thank you to all the artists who are outdoing themselves with pictorial celebrations of that fact.

Tumblr Tuesday: Yellowjackets Art (& Spoilers)

The drama girlies are back. Season 3 of that show about a teenage soccer team that sort of survives a plane crash in the Canadian wilderness and subsequently gets up to various dark and disturbing shenanigans is upon us as we speak, and the plot thickens, as it is wont to do. Please enjoy this offering of Yellowjackets art to keep you all sated til the next episode.

(And please scroll ahead at your own discretion—some mild spoilers, body horror, and gore ahead.)

It’s Tumblr’s 2024 Year in Review!

Hello, Tumblr. Welcome to your Year in Review. Grab a slice of hear-me-out cake and some tea or other beverage of choice, and settle in for another year’s worth of sweet, sweet data—brought to you by the folks behind your weekly Fandometrics lists.

How does it work, you ask? Well, each year, we collect and categorize data from every post you made, each search, all the tags you used, and each and every like and reblog—to see what you yelled about the most. Lists are grouped by topic using 365 days of data between October 21, 2023, and October 20, 2024. Rankings are based on volume of appearance—not sentiment, importantly—so you might see list entries you Do Not Like that Tumblr as a whole has been vocal about Not Liking this year. We don’t tend to include on-platform events, so while you all booped and BOOped each other to distraction, that won’t show up here. Those joys are simply unquantifiable.

But what can you expect to find? It’s been quite a year. Alongside supporting each other through and discussing world turbulences, you rallied around the things that bring you joy. You polled the heck out of pretty much everything and anything you could think of and created more fanart and fan fic than we could wave a moderately shaped wizard hat at. It's also been another huge year for fictional characters—arguably the best characters out there—so this Year in Review, you’ll find new and returned rankings of fictional characters from movies, video games, TV shows, and anime & manga. And finally, we've made the lists longer, which means you'll have more chance of seeing some of your more niche fandoms reflected in them this year.

That's all for now! And so, without further ado and absolutely no gilding of lilies, thank you for another Big Year on Tumblr, Tumblr. Please enjoy your Year in Review.

Tumblr Tuesday: Huevember

Hues, colors, shades. From pink to red to orange to yellow to green to blue to purple. You know what has those? Huevember. This Huevember, like other Huevembers before it, is demonstrating the delightful and very broad spectrum of fandom here on Tumblr (we've snuck a couple OCs in here, too, because they were too good to leave out). You have a few more days to get involved in one of the many challenges, or you could just sit back and enjoy these hues 🌈

Tumblr Tuesday: Heartstopper Fanart

Hello, it's a Tuesday, and you are on Tumblr. If you have enjoyed season 3 of Heartstopper already, please enjoy this Heartstopper season 3 fanart. If you have not yet done so and wish to, please enjoy the season and then enjoy this Heartstopper season 3 fanart. There's a lot of Narlie here—because, well, it's a big, big season for the boys and you all love them very much—but we're glad to report that some other faves have also made the cut!

A little reminder that the comic is still running over at @heartstoppercomic, and that @aliceoseman is here, too, if you want to see more :)
