Week 2 was another super week for the Blaze, winning 4-1 over the John Jay Extreme. The girls have transitioned from playing AYSO and having all home games, to now traveling around the county to play other club teams in Westchester; last Sunday to the beautiful horse farm lands of South Salem.

The young Blaze players came out strong in the first quarter with Kayla McGuigan, Julissa Cassiano and Meghan O’Hanlon peppering the Extreme goalie, who made save after save. The Blaze finally scored on a penalty shot by Siiri Lipping. The game stayed 1-0 for the rest of the first half due to outstanding defensive play by Gabby Disney, Amanda Mic, Michayla Benuscak, and Ashley Richardson in the goal.

U10 Girls – Magic

The SHFC Magic fell to the Yonkers Harriers by the score of 7-2 at Losee Park. After a fast start highlighted by two scores by #17 Caitlyn O’Hanlon, the Magic seemed destined for a second straight victory as her goals were followed by a number of shots on goal by #9 Katie Andruss and #3 Emily Orellana, but none found the back of the net. As the first half wound down the Harriers took several solid shots on goal, including a penalty kick, but they were turned away by Magic goalie #4 Christine Kern. Late in the first half, two Harriers shots made it through and they were able to tie the game at 2 going into the break. In the second half, the Magic were led by the tenacious defense of #11 Talia Lieberman and #12 Natalie Rypka. Despite their solid play, the Harriers made it through for a series of five additional scores for a final of 7-2. The co-captains for the Magic were Natalie Rypka and #7 Sasha Grose.

U10 Boys – Sentinels

The Sentinels came out on the losing end of an exciting game versus the Edgemont Blue Comets, 3-1. The Sentinels went down early on a nice strike from the Blue Comets to the side of the goal. Kallen Fairley tied it up at the 15 minute mark of the first half off a nice pass from Aaron Bell, some nifty dribbling between two defenders in the Comet’s box and a hard strike to the bottom corner. The Sentinels had many chances to score in the second half but could not find the mark. It was a good effort from the Sentinels especially Robert Disney on defense and at midfield. The Sentinels next game is Sunday September 27th at 3:45 in Larchmont.

U10 Boys – Warriors

The U10B Warriors definitely came out to play this weekend bringing a fighting spirit as they beat Manhattan Celtics 2-1 at home on Losee Field. Luke Weidner took up keeper gloves in the first half with some great saves. Just before half time Hugo Jercinovic lobbed the ball up and Callum Gallagher headed it on to Declan McCarthy, returning from injury, who put the ball away. The second half saw Tucker Junge do his signature run up the wing and crossed it into the middle for Callum Gallagher to make the back of the net for the second. Luke Wuerffel was notable with persistent energy when he was up front pushing the ball through a well-organized defense. A solid team effort with John Arnegger and Sebastian Hernandez keeping second half keeper Randall Nugra safe with excellent clearances.

U11 Girls – Cyclones

On Sunday, the U11 Girls Cyclones played another incredibly exciting game, winning 3-2 against the Rye Brook Crush, extending their record to 2-0. The team was captained by Ywomie Mota. Samuella Schroeder started the scoring with a first half goal. Thalia Tsilibes scored the next two goals. The defensive play was again terrific, with Angie Santos and Ywomie Mota being stellar at fullback at goalie. The Cyclones play next Sunday, September 27th at Briarcliff.

U11 Boys – Legends

Legends played Castleford away on Sunday afternoon on a beautiful day for soccer. In the first quarter of the game the boys had good pressure and passing but Castleford and their keeper defended well. After that the Legends opened the score when Max started a fast break carrying the ball to half-way and then releasing Nikhil who powered past the keeper; then Kyan and Jai combined to release Nikhil who blasted high into the net; shortly after Javier passed to Kyan who unleashed a left footed screamer. Kenneth defended beautifully in first half shutting down everything that came in his direction. In the 2nd Brandon, Massimo, Adrian and Nikhil played lockdown defense. Up front Kieran scored with a fake to take out the defender and a tapped finish to the corner. After than Max crossed for Jai to volley a finish at the far post. Hernan finished the scoring; intercepting a goal kick and powering home a finish. The team finished up showing their ball handling skills but with Justin making two fine saves; one diving, one sliding, to preserve the clean sheet.

U12 Boys – River Titans

The River Titans faced a formidable Rye team on Sunday. The first half had the Titans down 0-2, yet the Titans fought back with two goals of their own in the second half. But Rye answered with two for final score of 4-2 Rye. The Titans goals were scored first by Victor Ribeiro and then by Zach Burnett.

U13 Girls – Mustangs

The Mustangs out classed the Pelham Thunderbolts 4-0 on Sunday at Hackley field. The Mustangs controlled the ball the entire game with more than 20 shots on goal. The Mustang defense of Annie Dineen, Emma Clarke, Catherine Grimes, and Maddy Navin held the Thunderbolts to one opportunity. Talia Fante scored first off an assist from Isabella Chambers. Juliana Largess scored her second goal of the season off a cross from Shennah Preble. Talia scored again aided by Britany Alban. Finally Sophie Sylves-Berry finished scoring with the help of Caroline Grimes. U14 Girls – Horsemen

The Horsemen played the Rye Rattlers to a 2-2 tie this past Sunday at Hackley School. Rye started the scoring early in the first half and midfielder Avery Schumacher leveled the score shortly thereafter, beating the keeper from 25 yards out. The Rattlers kept the pressure on and were rewarded with a second goal later in the first half. The turning point of the game came shortly before halftime when Jennifer Stewart saved a Rye penalty kick; swinging momentum in favor of the home team.

The second half was all Horsemen who held the ball in their opponents half for the majority of the second half. The game stayed 2-1, with the Horsemen spurning many chances at goal, including a missed penalty kick. Anna Lazin’s tally late in the half leveled the score and the game ended in a draw.

The Horsemen will face their sister club, the RUFC Lightning at Hackley School. Kickoff scheduled for 2:30pm.

U14 Boys – Tornadoes

The Yorktown Crew came ready to play and scored off a scramble early in the first half. The Tornadoes defense lead by Sebastian Campuzano held them off until the final minute of the half when the Crew added a strike off a corner. The Tornadoes came out with a vengeance in the second half and dominated play. Good passing in the midfield by DJ Cronin, Abhi Weltig and Adam Geisker led to many shots on goal. Michael Richards had a couple of good chances, just missing the top corner off a set play. Later, Richards sent a perfectly placed corner into the 6 yard box where Kevin Quechol had his header glance off the crossbar. The Crew scored a fortunate third goal off a scramble to the side of the Tornadoes goal late in the game. The Tornadoes outplayed The Crew but could not catch a break. The Tornadoes next game will be 11:00 AM in Chestnut Ridge on Sunday September 27th.
