PORTLAND, Ore.- A 19-year-old is credited with saving the life of an elderly woman from her burning car over the weekend.

Her car hit a gas pump at a Chevron Station in Portland on Saturday and was quickly engulfed in flames. Phillipe, 19, and Raphael Bittar, 16, saw the victim pounding on the passenger’s side window and screaming for help.

“She’s going to die if we don’t help her,” Phillipe Bittar said. “We have to get her out of there really quickly before the whole car gets taken over.” That’s when he jumped out of his brother’s moving car and ran towards the blaze.

He broke the glass with his bare hand and grabbed the woman by her shoulders to pull her to safety.

“I was really trying not to think, and just to get her out as quickly as I could before anything gets worse and thank God it all worked out OK. She was really shocked. I saw her later when I was getting attended by the paramedics, she said thank you and gave me a hug,” Phillipe told KOIN 6 in Portland.
