Bishops hope truth will come out in reopening of Mamasapano inquiry

Leaders of the local Catholic church expressed hope Tuesday that the reopening of the Senate inquiry into the infamous Mamasapano incident would serve justice to the victims of the bloody encounter that left more than 60 people dead, including 44 police commandos from the Philippine National Police-Special Action Force (PNP-SAF) .

The reopening of the Mamasapano inquiry is set on Wednesday, January 27.

Lipa Archbishop Ramon Arguelles is hoping that the probe will also uncover the truth.

“I’m happy and hopeful that the poor victims will be given justice and the people will know the real truth,” he said.

Asked whether or not President Benigno Aquino III should attend the probe, he answered, “Whether he attends or not, the people should know what his position really was in the flawed operation.”

Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma said he would continue to pray for the truth to come out and for justice to be served.

“We can only pray that the truth about the matter hopefully should come out and justice will also be served,” he added.

Marbel Bishop Dinualdo Gutierrez said they would wait for the new evidence and will wait on the progress of the case.

“Senator Juan Ponce Enrile said to tackle possibly new evidence. Let us see or hear new evidence and act with justice, love and mercy,” he added. — APG, GMA News
