On September 29, that’s less than two days from now, the first Model X will be handed over to its first owner. That’s what CEO Elon Musk tweeted, anyway…

True, he has been known to over-promise a bit on the Model X launch date but we think this time Musk will stick to his word. Besides, the all-electric SUV is already a hit, with customers filling the order books before they even heard the price.

Not sure if they are going to be happy about it being a bit more expensive than the Model S, though US$5,000 is small change in a 100k car. Musk said the difference was due to the bigger size body complexity. By that, he was referring to the rear gullwing doors – that’s “Falcon Wing” in Tesla-speak for the other term reminds of a certain German brand.

Apparently, people find them such a novel idea that when a couple drove in a car park and noticed a Model X, they filmed the whole thing.

In spite of the imminent arrival and the car being a test mule with its rear lights masked, this did not make a difference to the lady sitting in the passenger’s seat filming (through her smartphone, probably) the Tesla employee opening and closing the left rear door before driving off.

If anything, she was very excited to actually be an eye witness to this, even noticing that the tester had to push its edge to firmly close it. Being a mule, perhaps the door wasn’t operating properly or there was some other issue, but she and her male companion were perplexed by this.

See? If they build it, they will come, provided it can woe them with an outstanding feature. Even if tight parking spaces might be an issue and the rest of the design is not particularly ground breaking.
