Mageia 5, Ubuntu Phones, and Tumbleweed

Red Hat is dominating the headlines today with their announcements and related from the Red Hat Summit 2015, but several interesting tidbits appeared from other projects as well. Tumbleweed hasn't been updated in quite a while, Neil Rickert knows why. Christine Hall reviewed Mageia 5 Monday and Dark Duck posted more screenshots today. Fedora and Korora 20s have reached their end of life and a new Ubuntu phone hits e-shelves.

openSUSE Tumbleweed hasn't received a new update or snapshot in nearly two weeks. Users probably have noticed, as rolling folks tend to do, but for those observing from the outside Neil Rickert said it's due to updating the toolchain with and for GCC 5. That process has delayed other projects before it and openSUSE is going through the errors now. Rickert figures it'll take a bit longer to sort out. Once it is, the update will be a large one.

Mageia 5 was released last Friday and FOSS Force's Christine Hall took it for a test drive. She said it installed and ran fine with good performance and stability. The community impressed Hall as much as the distro and concluded, "I’ve found Mageia 5 to be a fine, easy-to-use distro with plenty of spit and polish, a distro I’d have no trouble recommending to anyone. Indeed, it would be near the top of my list." Hall included several screenshots in her post, but Dark Duck has posted several.

The latest Ubuntu phone has been announced to go on sale June 25, but it's not as easy as going to a retailer and putting it in your cart. It seems one will have to play some kind of game in hope of getting an invitation to buy. Ronnie Tucker today posted of some of the hoops one must dive through. You'll have to find one of several hidden hotspots and hope it will have a link to the invite. If not, you can try again the next day.
