New York nanny charged with assaulting six-month-old girl after parents left secret cameras around the apartment to catch her

A babysitter has been charged with abusing a six-month-old girl after she was allegedly caught on surveillance cameras when the parents were out.

Elena Bass, 36, was seen 'violently removing' the child from a changing table and slamming her into an armchair in the family's Brooklyn home shortly before Christmas, according to legal documents.

The girl's parents contacted police on Monday after watching the footage, the New York Daily News reported.

Staten Island-based Bass, who hails from Georgia, was arrested shortly after midnight on Tuesday and arraigned on Wednesday afternoon.

She has admitted to assaulting the child. 

According to her LinkedIn page, Bass is an executive director at Staten Island Feral Initiative, which tackles the issue of feral stray cats in the area.

She majored in Women's Leadership Studies at Salisbury University in Maryland.

Her professional profile on the website opens with a quote: 'All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us.' 

Bass then describes herself as a 'critical thinker with a passion for justice and enthusiasm for life itself', and writes: 'I hope to leave the world a kinder, smarter, more functional place, and inspire others to do the same.'
