Downton's Elizabeth McGovern flashes her legs in stylish black dress at Kevin Spacey Gala

SHE'S usually dressed in floor length gowns for her role as the Countess of Grantham in Downton Abbey, so Elizabeth McGovern took the opportunity to show off her perfect pins as she partied in London last night.

The 53-year-old actress stepped out in style in a little black dress at the Old Vic Gala celebration in honour of Kevin Spacey. 

Elizabeth showed off her hourglass figure in the chic garment, which cinched in at the waist to emphasise her curves. 

A plunging neckline revealed a flash of cleavage, but the gown's main emphasis was on the star's legs. 

With it's glamorous dip hem rising to above her knee, Elizabeth ensured all eyes were on her toned pins.

Elizabeth hit the town to celebrate Kevin Spacey's 11 years at the Old Vic

The multi-talented star – who is also a singer with the band Sadie and the Hotheads – added a pop of colour to her look with a pair of bright red killer heels. 

She accessorised with glittering earrings and a necklace and carried a small gold clutch box. 

Not forgetting her Downton roots completely, Elizabeth channeled old-school glamour by styling her hair into retro waves and sported smokey-eyes.

Also in attendance at the event – which was held in honour of actor Kevin Spacey's 11 years as Artistic Director of The Old Vic – was Elizabeth's on-screen husband Hugh Bonneville.

The 51-year-old actor dressed up for his important role as host in a black tuxedo and bow tie.

Last month is was announced that the next series of Downton Abbey would be the last. 

Hugh told the Daily Express that the end of the period drama would "leave a huge hole" in all the cast's lives.

He said: "We are filming the final episodes now.

"It’s with great fondness that one says farewell to a much-loved show. It is going to feel very strange when it finishes and it will leave a huge hole in all our lives."
