DPWH opens two lanes on Ayala Bridge

(Updated 3:49 p.m.) The Department of Public Works and Highways on Thursday opened two lanes to traffic on Ayala Bridge in Manila, a report on News To Go said.

However, only light vehicles are allowed to use the lanes—one lane on each side, the report said.

For four weekends, though, the bridge will be closed, Ric de Vera of DPWH-National Capital Region Planning and Design said.

"“Ang start ng weekend closure is on Oct. 9 ng 10 p.m. until November 2, 5 a.m. Closure weekend para mag-stretch ng post tension. Hindi kasi pwede may load,” he said.

The weekend closure schedule will be from 10 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday for the four weekends beginning Oct. 9.

In November, the whole bridge will be opened for the use of vehicles weighing up to 20 tonnes.

The bridge, which has undergone repair in the past months, is expected to be fully rehabilitated in time for the Asia-Pacific Economic Summit next month.

Ayala Bridge is the first steel bridge constructed across the Pasig River.

It first underwent reconstruction and rehabilitation in the 1930s. —KG, GMA News
