PNP to VIPs: Security cops aren’t your kids’ drivers, nannies

Just weeks before the opening of classes, the Philippine National Police reminded VIPs and their respective police security detail that bringing the children to school was not part of the police officers' duties.

Supt. Rogelio Simon, chief of the public information office of the PNP PSPG, said police officers who are detailed as security escorts of VIPs are not allowed to function as drivers or even as children's nannies.

Doing errands for the VIPs and their families is not part of the job of police officers on security detail. These include carrying personal belongings, opening doors and bringing the children to school.

Simon said such functions demean the officers' position as law enforcers.

Police security personnel who will be found to be doing such errands will face administrative charges.

The VIPs who will be found to assign such duties to their police security detail will have their security privilege revoked.

Simon said the unit was already preparing to recall the security detail assigned to politicians as the 2016 elections draws near. -NB, GMA News
