Canada advises nationals in PHL on large crowds, traffic disruptions during papal visit

Canada on Wednesday advised its nationals in the Philippines to expect large crowds and traffic and flight schedule disruptions during Pope Francis' five-day visit.

In an update to its travel advice on the Philippines, the Canadian government encouraged its nationals to contact their airlines to verify their schedules.

"Large crowds are expected to attend events during Pope Francis’ visit the Philippines from January 15 to January 19, 2015. Expect traffic delays and disruptions to commercial flights," it said.

It urged them to "contact your airline to confirm the status of your flight prior to travelling to the airport."

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines had said flights at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport and Tacloban Airport will be suspended at certain times during Pope Francis' visit.

Pope Francis is due to arrive at Villamor Air Base Thursday afternoon. He will then proceed to the Nunciature in Manila.

During his stay, the Pope will take part in activities in Metro Manila and Leyte. — Joel Locsin/LBG, GMA News
