The CW has cast its Hawkman.
Reckless alum Falk Hentschel has been tapped to play the DC Comics hero, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
Hentschel will play Carter Hall (aka Hawkman), the latest reincarnation of an Egyptian Prince who is fated to reincarnate throughout time along with his soulmate, Kendra Saunders (portrayed by Ciara Renee). Like Kendra, Carter can access the powers of the Hawk God, Horus, transforming him into the winged warrior known as “Hawkman.” In comic book lore, there have been multiple versions of Hawkman, who is known for his artificial wings attached to a harness made of Nth metal (whose properties include negative gravity), which gives him the ability to fly.

Hentschel will first appear in the crossover episodes of The CW’s Arrow and The Flash before he continues the role in the midseason spinoff of both, Legends of Tomorrow. The latter series centers on Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill), a time-traveling rogue who has seen a horrible future and assembles a ragtag team to stop Vandal Savage, an immortal villain causing trouble throughout time.
Executive producer Marc Guggenheim said at Comic-Con that the first few episodes of Arrow and The Flash this season would set up how certain characters end up on the spinoff. Legends stars The Flash‘s Wentworth Miller (Leonard Snart/Captain Cold), Dominic Purcell (Mick Rory/Heat Wave) and Victor Garber (Dr. Martin Stein/one half of Firestorm). Also signed on are Arrow‘s Brandon Routh as Ray Palmer/the Atom, as well as Renee (Kendra Saunders/Hawkgirl) and Franz Drameh (Jay Jackson).

Worth noting: Michael Shanks portrayed Hawkman on The WB/CW’s Smallville. The character was featured in the 1979 TV special Legends of the Superheroes and played by Bill Nuckols.
Hentschel’s big screen credits include last year’s Transcendence, in which he played a member of the radical anti-technology group R.I.F.T. He also appeared in White House Down and Knight and Day. On the television, he recently appeared in seven episodes of CBS’ legal drama Reckless.
Hentschel is represented by APA and Jackoway Tyerman Wertheimer Austen Mandelbaum.
