Jack is an amazingly intuitive metal detectorist who has been detecting since Spring of 2014. Jack is 11 and he is my son. We detect regularly and have found some really great things but, recently, Jack made a discovery that dropped both our jaws and he found it right in our back yard. We have been in nearly every park, school, church yard and several permission-granted private lands within 100 miles of Green Bay, our home town, and have found many items of interest including old coins, silver and gold items, historic artifacts, and a lot of the same things most detectorists share stories about at our monthly detecting meetings but we never found anything like what Jack found and ran into the house beaming with pride and amazement to show me recently.
Jack got his Minelab X-TERRA 705 earlier this year and he has really gotten to know the machine well and can distinguish pretty accurately what the tones and numeric values are suggesting. He has a great time with it and absolutely appreciates the historic significance of everything he unearths (along with the piles of clad he accumulates!) which is why digging a couple items off his own “nectar list” really resonated with him. The fact it came from our own back yard, which he had gone over many times with a…lesser, starter model detector when he first began, made it an ironic and wondrous discovery. I’m sure these items are “been there, done that” to a lot of folks who have been swinging for years but, to this 11-year-old and his 40-something-year-old dad, it will remain a memorable moment in time brought about through this incredible hobby! The military button (Navy uniform) was found first and was exciting in and of itself and then…just a few inches away Jack pulled out the Navy Aviator wings and he was ecstatic! Both are items we’d both been hoping to find and, thanks to Minelab and the incredible X-TERRA 705 Jack can now cross 2 items off his list!
