Marcel Delmotte
Born in 1901, Marcel Delmotte was a largely self-taught painter and designer who gained a reputation for producing fantastic and arresting paintings, often on a large scale, displaying surrealistic and expressionist tones. His early subject matter was inspired by classical mythology and the Bible and he translated these into visionary paintings with particular reference to the spiritual masters of the Renaissance like Paolo Uccello and Nicolas Poussin. Later he developed a penchant for portraying figures and nudes in a variety of backgrounds: some imaginary, some almost threatening, others architectural or from nature and some abstract.
