GRAND RAPIDS, MI - A 51-year-old man has allegedly come up with a unique way to cure the blues.
David Keith Slovinski is accused of taking pictures of his private parts on his cell phone and then showing them to unsuspecting employees at area Meijer stores.
Slovinski is a repeat criminal offender charged over the last two decades with a variety of sexually-related crimes that resulted in him being placed on a GPS tether monitored by law enforcement.
On Jan. 28, police say Slovinski showed up in the photo department of the Meijer store at 3434 Century Center St. SW near RiverTown Crossings Mall.
While in the photo department of the store, he showed his unsettling selfies to an employee there, according to Grandville Police.
Two days later, Slovinski's tether showed him at the Meijer Store, 5500 Clyde Park Ave. SW, in Wyoming, according to police.
At the Meijer store he allegedly was talking to a female employee in the electronics department when he pulled out his phone and displayed pictures of his exposed privates, according to a probable cause affidavit in Wyoming District Court.
Police say Slovinski was identified on video at the Meijer stores and he also confessed to the exposure.
Slovinski allegedly admitted to a Grandville Police investigator that he knew showing pictures of his privates was wrong, but said he also liked seeing how people reacted when confronted by a picture of his unmentionables.
"Yeah, it cheers me up when I'm feeling down," Slovinski is quoted as saying in an affidavit in Grandville District Court.
Slovinski has been in and out of prison since 1986 on convictions including window peeping, indecent exposure and second-degree criminal sexual conduct in Kent, Muskegon and Marquette counties.
He was in prison for 12 years on a 1998 criminal sexual conduct charge out of Kent County, until his release on Jan. 25, 2011, according to the Michigan Department of Corrections.
Within five months of his release, he was charged with indecent exposure in Muskegon County and window peeping in Kent County, according to court record.
He was placed on parole on May 28 and was on supervision that included a GPS tether.
Slovinski is now charged as a sexually delinquent person which means a judge can order him detained until it can be determined that he is no longer a threat - up to life.
Slovinski waived his probable cause hearings Monday in Grandville and Wednesday in Wyoming, sending the case to Kent County Circuit Court before Judge Dennis Leiber.
He remains in the Kent County Jail on a $250,000 bond.
