Tarrytown Volunteer Fire Department Douses Rescues Cat, Douses Condo Fire

TVAC administered oxygen and massaged the cat that was wrapped in a blanket to keep warm.

The following report of a Nov. 15 fire at the Edgemont Condominium complex is from the Tarrytown Volunteer Fire Department. Two of seven units in the building were destroyed, and members of the department were on the scene for more than two hours, according to officials:

On November 15, 2014, the Tarrytown Volunteer Fire Department responded to a report of a fire at Edgemont Condominium. They found a working fire at one of the units. As is practice, they requested the Tarrytown Volunteer Ambulance Corps to stand by in case of victims or firefighters needing medical help.

Soon, a grey and white cat was found in the burning unit. Robbie Hoyt, Captain, Consolidated Engine Company 77, rescued the cat from the fire scene. The cat was unresponsive and barely breathing. TVAC administered oxygen and massaged the cat that was wrapped in a blanket to keep warm. The cat very slowly started breathing better and eventually became responsive and mewing.
