PNP reminds public: Dugo-Dugo Gang targeting children too

The Philippine National Police reminded the public against the wiles of the Dugo-Dugo Gang, which it said is not limiting its targets to household helpers.

In a post on its Twitter account, the PNP said the Dugo-Dugo Gang is also targeting children who can be tricked into believing a parent has gotten into trouble.

"(Gang members) victimize not only members of the household and kasambahay, but (are) also targeting the kids or school children," the PNP Criminal Investigation and Detection Group said.

It said the gang would trick their victims by claiming their employers or parents may be involved in an accident, then pressure them into bringing cash or valuables to a certain place.

Once there, the valuables are turned over to a gang member who then disappears.

The PNP urged the public to educate their household members against such a modus operandi.

It suggested the use of a password "to verify if the caller is a scam or not."

Also, it said the police or barangay should be informed immediately "if there are dubious characters at their door" or if they receive phone calls that may indicate this modus operandi.

The public may call the PNP hotline at 0917-8475757 and send a message to Twitter @PNPhotline, or call 117. — Joel  Locsin/LBG, GMA News
