Incredibles 2 Set for 2019, Toy Story 4 Delayed To 2018, & More

2016 should be a big year at the box office for the Walt Disney Company, what with multiple Marvel Studios films, a new Star Wars movie, two original animated feature films (Zootopia and Moana), and a handful of live-action projects (The Jungle Book, The BFG) shaping up to bring in healthy returns at the box office in theaters. Meanwhile, Disney/Pixar shall be releasing the anticipated Finding Nemo sequel, Finding Dory - further adding to what ought to be a rather lucrative time frame at the House of Mouse.

New York Comi-Con 2015 is underway (at the time of writing this) and Marvel Studios used the occasion to formally change-up its film release slate beyond 2016, announcing Ant-Man and the Wasp and setting dates for not-yet revealed 2020 projects. Similarly, Disney/Pixar have made a few changes to their release date layout starting in 2017 - and that includes setting an official release date for the long-awaited animated sequel, The Incredibles 2.

The Incredibles 2 is now scheduled to reach theaters on June 21st, 2019. Incredibles co-writer/director Brad Bird is currently working on the script for the sequel, but has yet to reveal any specific plot details for the project - beyond saying it will be a proper continuation of the first Incredibles movie's narrative (rather than a reaction to changes in the superhero genre over the past decade). However, most of the main characters from the series' first chapter - including Samuel L. Jackson as Frozone - are expected to feature as part of the story for the sequel. So far so good, in other words.

Disney/Pixar has also scheduled Cars 3 - the third installment in the Cars movie franchise - to arrive in theaters on June 16th, 2017, taking the spot previous occupied by Toy Story 4 - which, in turn, has moved back to a June 15th, 2018 release date, instead. Little is known about the third Cars film at this point, with regard to either story details or who is even writing/directing the project; though, with a Summer 2017 date now set, it's fair to assume the computer-animated adventure is already well into development.

The fourth Toy Story feature film, by comparison, has Disney/Pixar Chief Creative Officer and Toy Story 1 & 2 helmsman, John Lasseter directing from a script by Rashida Jones and Will McCormack (Celeste and Jesse Forever) - and, it's been confirmed that the movie shall follow Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen) on an adventure to locate Bo Peep (Annie Potts). Disney/Pixar have successfully kept the Toy Story property going strong even since Toy Story 3 opened in theaters back in 2010, by releasing a handful of well-received Toy Story shorts and specials - so fingers crossed, Toy Story 4 will also keep the franchise in good graces with the general public.

Disney/Pixar has confirmed the title Coco for Toy Story 3 director Lee Unkrich's upcoming animated film (based around the Day of the Dead holiday), with its November 22nd, 2017 release date locked.
Walt Disney Animation Studios' Gigantic - an animated retelling/re-imagining of the Jack and the Beanstalk fairy tale - is likewise officially set on its March 9th, 2018 release date.
Disney has set release dates for untitled live-action fairy tale projects on December 22nd, 2017, November 2nd, 2018, March 29th, 2019, and November 18th, 2019. There are several potential contenders for those release dates right now - including, director Tim Burton's Dumbo and Disney's live-action Sword in the Stone retelling, among others.
Untitled Pixar animated films have been scheduled for March 13th, 2020 and June 19th, 2020.
